Templar Questions, please HELP!

Ironicles

Thanks all for taking the time to read this! My 2 friends are playing a Sorc and DK, so naturally I assume the best fit for this trio would be a Templar (am I right)? Here are my questions.

1. I've been reading a lot about how Magicka Templars are very weak when it comes to DPS, and Stamina is the way to go. I want to be able to heal well, but would also like to either Tank or DPS for my friends. Do you think it would be best to go Stamina or Magicka as a Templar playing 99% of time with 1 or 2 people?

2. Race... which one should I do? I've read Bretons/High Elves are good for Magicka Templars and Imperials are good for Stamina. My concern is that if I pick a race like Breton for Magicka then want to respec to Stamina, I might have to reroll (I'm paranoid that way when it comes to min/maxing). Would Imperial be a good race to chose if I might respec in future between Stamina and Magicka?

3. How would you level up your Templar? Looking for some advice is possible! Later on we want to focus on PVP but want to be decent at PVE as well.

I'm so new that I'm looking for any input to help! Ultimately I want to make a Sorc of NB for PVP only, but for our group, I think Templar may be best. Thanks!

I rolled an Orc Templar and have always enjoyed them. He can Tank, DPS and Heal great. Race plays a role for sure but the point is you can go with any race and be fine. All of my attributes are in health also and I offset that with magicka enchants for healing gear and stamina enchants for tanking gear. Your armor/weapon sets are what's really important for which way you want to go. Invest some gold into a good armor set/s for each build. There's a link at the bottom for all the special crafted sets that can be made in the game. Get a hold of someone who can make these until you work your research traits up.

As far as leveling, go with what you want to play as for your 1st bar. If you like melee then go duel wield or 2h. For your second bar grab a restoration staff. You can work this up while leveling as you'll need it for healing later.

Thanks for the help! I've read though that it's best to specialize in Magicka OR Stamina, and not both as it limits your DPS. Is that true?

Quite true to a degree! However what is really being said here is that you need to focus on Magicka or Stamina. Do both and you are setting yourself up for failure or a hard time.

Don't forget that until you hit V1 it's trivially easy to level so just concentrate on exploring the class, enjoy the game, and get as many skills as you can.

Once you hit the Vet levels then consider what you want to do.

currently hybrid builds are not best at dps , so ppl either go stam or magicka , but that may change in the future . before it was all magicka after few patches stamina was the go to , now both are comparable and this is all in PVE . in PVP u will find a lot of different builds including hybrid builds.since you are just starting i would recommend experimenting with different build since u have the option to respec your self anytime u want and go with the build u like . while lvling i tried all builds and due to that i have all my skill lines at max and change into any build i want with a respec.

Thanks guys! I like the ideas of trying out different builds, I just don't want to gimp myself with race selection in the VR levels/PVP ned game. In that case, should I choose Imperial? And if I do so, will I not do as well as a Magicka Templar if that's the choice I go end game?

I have a Magicka Templar who is Imperial...

The race does have an influence but it's not that important, so choose what you feel is best for you.

Do you feel that Imperial Magicka Templar isn't as effective as a Breton?

the difference would not be substantial. an imperial would have* slightly less magicka than a breton of same gear and attribute points but more hp. the ~10% magicka difference end game is probably like ~3K magicka. that's about 2 ticks (4 seconds) of regen time. breton's spells would do a bit more damage and heal for a bit more but i don't think you would notice.

I have a Breton Templar (VR14). He has a 'magicka build', meaning the spells he uses are mainly use magicka, the regen drinks and food buffs are magicka, and his gear/enchants are magicka. I have a few stam spells, but I generally only use 1 of them in my rotation (to give my magicka a chance to regenerate).

Templars are amazing. They are the only class with a native heal spell/line and I generally keep my Breath of Life on my DPS action bar (juuuust in case).

You have 8 character spots available so you could always create a Breton Templar magicka based and an Imperial Templar for Stamina based builds. Then you wouldn't need to change up the build for them and race isn't an issue.
