Okay, I never believed anyone when they said there were gaping problems with this game's lore

Catthedragon
Catthedragon
Soul Shriven
But why does the "argonian skeleton" I talked to in Coldharbour not have a tail

I'm pretty sure it says somewhere in the lore that tails have bones

Overlooking the fact that it has a human skull.

It's been the same thing in Skyrim, generic human-type skeleton, totally ignoring beast races (and I would say Orc at the same time for the skull). Modders actually added the missing skeleton forms in the game. Even the skeleton polymorph you get from a quest in Shadowfen makes every race a human-type skeleton which is kinda .. stupid.

It's been discussed a few times and I'm pretty sure ,just like many other things, will be ignored and never added to the game.

That's just one of those things you gotta overlook or you're gonna have a hard time enjoying things, on the same level of how you can find septims in ancient Nordic ruins in Skyrim (the game) or how everyone - even native races in their own homeland - disregard their native language.

Eh, language I could accept. I don't expect most fantasy titles to hire linguists to create completely new languages. Accents and the odd phrase are fine. Things that are visually jarring (again, like the "Argonian" skeleton) take you out of the immersion and gameplay.

Those are issues of budgeting and what ZOS is willing to invest in their animation/graphics department. They could easily fix that.

I think Oblivion and Morrowind had a similar problem. Area says dead argonians. Place is filled with human skeletons.

If you think about it though, it kind of makes sense from a practical standpoint. Skeletons involve a lot of modeling work, and there are relatively few places where a beast race/orc skeleton would be appropriate. Would be great if they could get it done though.

Cause the tail is an atavism.
When argonian or khajiit dies, atavism goes away :p

I am surprised that nobody mentioned the fact, that as a souless person you can use the skill that makes your soul explode.

On the contrary, I think beast-race skeletons would be appropriate in a lot of places in the game, just like beast races appear all over Tamriel. Skeletons for Orcs would merely require adding two tusks to the skull. Tails are repetitive rows of vertebrae that could be added with very little effort. The animations for Khajit and Argonian tails are already in the game. Only the cat- and lizard-like skulls would require any significant effort, and even those are not exactly a daunting task. Perhaps ZOS was not given permission to design the first "proper" beast-race skeletons? They are not in control of TES lore, and their license to it might be limited.

They've already done so much with the lore, I doubt it was a permission issue. More likely than not, they didn't think it was important.

Probably refers to the 'replacement soul' all soul shriven have, and all daedra for that matter - not a soul, but a vestige (their equivilant of a soul) - that blue thing you turn into when respawning.

At least, that's how I see it.

I find it especially odd that they've overlooked this when they put a lot of effort into other, arguably more minor, details.

For example I gave one of my characters an eye patch in the character creator and I assumed the game would treat it as basically part of his face, so it would appear under any head armor he wears. But some of them remove it, and instead of going back to normal the eye underneath is white and has scar tissue around it.

It's a really cool detail, but very, very minor compared to argonian skeletons using a human model so it seems odd to do one and not the other.
