Is it advantageous to maintain a subscription?

Okay, so my wife and I have remained subscribed to ESO, but we play only around once a week or so, and I'm not seeing clear advantages for remaining subscribed. From what I understand, the XP bonus is nearly negligible, and it's actually less expensive to purchase crowns outright.

And we know some remain subscribed out of a mixture of loyalty (occasional rewards) and paying for future game development.

Opinions and observations are welcome.

As to the poll ... is it advantageous to remain subscribed, or not ... specifically for a casual player? It is anonymous to protect the guilty.

I enjoy the 10% bonus to Exp and Gold and whatnot. In fact, I am way over leveling the VR content I am doing right now. For example, my AD Sorcerer is half way to VR9 and she still has not finished Glenumbra yet (two Dolmens, 3 World Bosses and the Public Dungeon is left to do). So, this bonus, small it may be, will allow me to easily reach VR14 or close to it by the time I am finished with Gold with just some grinding, but mostly content.

For a casual once a week player I would say the 10% is worthwhile to help with character progression. But, if your one to grind out levels anyway by mob grinding, then the bonus may not be of much use.

Voting yes because while right now the bonus is basic it will be improved when DLC/Expansion start to be released (though this may not be the case depending on price).

Personally for me I feel it's worth it, I spent a year subbed to play previously so I am use the cost of play, for that I also get the small benefits which it brings, the most useful for me right now being research timers for training a crafting alt.

In my opinion a sub is not currently worthwhile.

As I understand it the big selling point is access to all the DLC, the boosts and crowns are supposed to be secondary to that. But at the moment there is no DLC, so there's no big advantage to a sub.

Thanks for the input. My current job pays ten months out of twelve, and I live on a military pension (and whatever my wife brings in) for two months in the summer. That, and a new motorcycle with payments, may necessitate nixing of our two subscriptions as we tighten our collective belts.

It's all a matter of opinion, I am not missing the 14.99, and I want to collect the crowns and see what they do with DLC's, so for me no big deal.

No one can really answer the question but you, If it is cheaper for you to buy crowns outright due to not playing much, then sure drop your sub, you can always pick it back up again when things start to happen after console release. Then again it is all up to you.

Voting NO because:

I have just returned to the game after playing in beta, purchasing the game then quitting after the 2nd month.
I came back because I have more time on my hands now and I could test the game for free without paying a subscription.

I'll admit the game has improved a bit since then, but in all honesty from what I can tell, nothing new except the justice system and CP (which I am too low to checkout yet) has been added.

After thinking about subscribing I checked out the benefits, 10% XP - I hate leveling fast and I just left Stonefalls at 80% of level 17... so already out leveling content without an XP boost, so no thanks on that!. 1500 coins to spend in the shop, so I check out shop. Nothing that I want, except maybe the panther, but I already got enough coins for that if a want from my previous subscription.

The real selling point is access to all content, well, seeing as there isn't any new content that's a moot point as of now.

So IMHO, no... there's no reason at this point for me to sub. I am enjoying the game again, now that it seems NB's can utilize stamina properly, one thing that made me quit before. But I am not going to throw money at nothing.

I will however, subscribe the moment new content is released, or if the content can just be brought outright, then i'll do that instead and buy coins as and when I need to.

I think it is worth it and also I like supporting games I enjoy. Sad part it seems like a lot of people want to play for free and not support anyone no matter what game it is. Sad how a lot of gamers have become screaming for F2P/B2P then if the game fails and closes they will be the first to cry.

I pay because the trait research can take an extremely long time. I really get impatient when it comes to waiting 7 days for a trait to be finished being researched. The way I look at it exp wise, the higher level you are the more that small 10% applies, which actually adds up to quite a bit.

I agree thought that it just depends on the individual. I'd say if you find yourself occasionally spend $15+ on the crown store every month, then subscribe. If not then don't subscribe.

It's entirely up to the player. I personally see no benefit to subbing. I don't make a habit of paying companies that don't deliver the product promised (or) what I was led to believe the product would be.

Does that mean I want ESO to fail, no. It simply means that if I am as a pc player okay to send to the back of the bus for consoles, my money goes with me. They had me on the hook for a year, that's enough until they follow through with pc plans.

Same here - I had no characters trained in Blacksmithing since I hadn't used any Heavy Armor before update 2, but now my Bosmer DK is getting up to speed ...

I'm not going to vote, because my answer is different depending on the player. For some people it's totally worth it. For others it's totally not worth it. It really depends... I mean for me personally it's worth it (at least, it's worth it on my main account - not on my secondary account, so I'm not subbed on that one). For you it might not be.

Heh, my DC Dragonknight is 65% of the way to VR9 and hasn't even finished Bal Foyen yet (almost done - just have the final quest to do), let alone Stonefalls (which I haven't started at all), so yeah, if you're the type who does VR questing instead of grinding, the 10% bonus definitely makes a difference. I can't imagine I'll be below VR12 by the time I finish Cadwell's Gold, and I'll more likely be VR13 or VR14. Without doing Craglorn yet, or grinding (although I have been doing a bunch of Cyrodiil PVE)...

Definitely depends on the player. If at any point you think you'd buy 1500 crowns or more, you might as well just subscribe instead and the extra perks on top of the crowns. The primary benefit of the sub is (currently) the crowns, and if those aren't of interest to you, then the sub likely isn't. The boosts to xp, gold, etc. feel negligible in the short-term, but aren't anything to scoff at in the long-term.

@Nerio, that's not exactly true.

If you buy one month subscription you will pay about $0.99 per 100 Crowns. If you buy a 5500 Crown pack for $40 you will pay about $0.72 per 100 Crowns. That's a savings of about 28%. That's a better "benefit" than any of the bonuses you get with a subscription (I'm speaking of the 10% bonuses here).

I picked other, I don't much care about the 10% or the crowns, granted I did get the nightmare... but beyond that I don't much care about any of it at this time...

I still find I enjoy ESO, I still play almost every day if only for a bit...

I pay for it to support the game in some small way.

@Gidorick For sure. If someone is absolutely sure they want that many crowns then it's better to buy in bulk. There is opportunity cost and commitment associated with spending $40 all at once rather than $15 spread across a few months, that makes the subscription more compelling than outright buying crowns for some types of consumers.

It's also worth noting that someone more interested in buying in bulk also has the option to subscribe for multiple months that brings it a little closer (edited some bad math).

That's why it depends on the person. Different people have different comfort levels with putting more money up front, and different people have their own perceived value of how much a Crown is worth to them.

I broke all the payment options down in another thread @Nerio. You are right about those not willing/able to buy ESO+ or Crowns in bulk. I was a 6 month subscriber twice over, so if I EVER buy crowns, it'll be in the $40 packs. The cheapest crowns get with ESO+ is 86 cents per 100 crowns.
