Justice System - Add an option to lie to the guards

Just wanted to put this out as an idea. I think it would be really interesting to have another option for when you get caught stealing. Your character can lie! The system would give you the option of lying, and if your response is accepted, the guard would let you go free (ex. 30% chance of being let off for free). If the guard doesn't accept your story, it would be as if you selected 'flee' and would be hostile.

The system would have a database of possible responses, and would pick one for you to use. Or, if you want to go more in depth, the system could generate 3 possible lies you could give, and you would choose one to tell the guard. The chance of getting off free is random no matter what choice you make, so clicking the same lie (if you get caught more than once) doesn't necessarily mean you will be let off if you chose that the first time.

You could have some really funny responses, like "Oh, I'm sorry I thought that was MY pocket!". I think it would add some more spark to the whole process. :)

I wouldn't call it lying but I DO think there's a possibility for some speakcraft skills to be incorporated into the justice system that would function like you are saying.
What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.
    That's right... Horse.

Not the same thing, but I wish we could bribe the guards so they'd look the other way. Right now, if you choose to pay the bounty you lose any stolen items you have. If you get caught in a crowded area with lots of guards where escape isn't easy and have items you really don't want to lose (e.g. rare motifs, purple stolen items), you could pay the bounty plus a bribe (maybe 2x bounty?) so you wouldn't have to surrender the loot.

how about a bribe option with a random amount they will accept so I can keep my loot.

based on a random chance of them not accepting that is = to flee

maybe two options of bribe, 20 gold 40 gold were they take the large option and randomly don't take the cheaper option

lie option could be fun though
This is were my signature would be if I was allowed one.

I like bribe, but it's way to low as proposed. I would accept it at "fine x10" and you keep the stolen items. I would also want a small (like 1 in 10) chance that the guard takes the bribe and nails you anyway.

Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

    More options are fun!

I definitely would add a "bribe" option, of, say, thrice the bounty... random chance of the guard accepting the bribe, which would let you go free with your stolen goods, or declining the bribe, which would make them attack you for daring to bribe the law!

A "fast talk" option might also be a good thing... though either the chance of it working should be way lower (you don't get all for nothing, if paying money for a bribe gives you one chance, paying nothing but lip sergvice would give you a lot lower chance of success), or you should have to give up your stolen goodies, but avoid paying your fine...

i've been toying with this and I'm thinking ....

What about a skill line or option in the upcoming Theives, Morag Tong or Dark Brotherhood guides to allow for a bribe or threaten option (similar to the persuade from mages or intimidate from fighters)

Or it could be added in to the Ledgerdemain skill line.

The problem with that is that there would be no point in just choosing 'flee'. So you would have to put some disadvantage on 'lying'.

20 - 40 gold is way to low. It would need to be a percentage or either loot in the bag or bounty. Something like 50-100% of bounty. Also losing would increase bounty just like trying to flee and the player would no longer have an option to flee.

    Basically, the choices would be
    1. Pay bounty
    2. Flee
    3. Bribe. Losing bribe would have a significant bribe and losing would increase bounty paid and no longer have an option to flee. Also, odds cannot be better than 50%.

Edit: The idea is you can keep your loot and simply pay the bounty. Lets face it, doing it on the cheap does not have a strong case.

Besides that, I think the system is fine as it is.
