DEVS - Is there final confirmation of 1080p 30fps for console?

There was still a question if both consoles we're going to support 1080p 30fps. Did we get that in beta? Is it finalized for both consoles?

I don't think it was ever confirmed but I will say if it wasn't 1080p then it was some really impressive 900p and I was on Xbox one

You won't get a reply on the Weekend, they always go WAAAY down in posting, if ever posting, on weekends. Not insulting them or anything, just stating fact. The Dev Tracker shows that literally no dev has posted at all today (Saturday their time).

Still, it doesn't hurt to call the devs that answer us usually, might get lucky.
    @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom @ZOS_AlanG @ZOS_JasonLeavey @ZOS_GaryA

I'm really curious on the answer too. It won't be a buying factor for me as long as it's playable, but I'm still very curious.

Hey there, folks. We do have an answer for this available on our knowledge base: our targets for framerate and resolution on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are 30 FPS and 1080p resolution.

If that ever changes, we will update that article.

The problem is that it says "our targets for framerate", not that the targeted framerate is actually being met. That's what's throwing off a lot of people. Is the target being met so far into development?

Those knowledge base entries are aged. We're three weeks away from release, I would assume the game has gone gold and this is answer has to be final. It is a selling point for this deciding on a new console purchase.

What are you telling game reviewers? How are you marketing it? Final answer 1080p 30fps on both consoles?

Not to be rude Michelle, but that is not what the OP was asking. Also, the knowledge base says you guys are targeting 1080p/30fps on both consoles. The OP was asking if it is or isn't 1080p, not what you are "trying" to achieve. Like the above poster, the game is 3 weeks out from release, so unless there is a delay that has not been announced, resolution and frame rate should be able to be shared with the community.

I know many people that would like to know this for sure, so they can make a decision on which version to get, if any.

Wait for Digital Foundry to chime in. Chances are, X1 is probably at 900p like the majority of multiplat releases. They managed to get it up to 1080p 30FPS for Destiny, though that doesn't have any large scale environments or anything like Cyrodil.

If anyone has direct screen-grabs they can pixel count. I'll check Beyond3D forums and see if anyone did the legwork there.

30fps in normal for MMOs. On console where hardware is specialized for the game, you can optimize the game to talk to the hardware at a lower level than PC, making it easier to stabilize throughout the games different environments. Where you may sacrifice in 'smoothness' running around in pve, you'll benefit in places like Cyrodiil.

You're not playing a FPS. And if you think ESO requires the frames a FPS does to compete, you haven't played a FPS lately.

I just don't get why this announcement is so secret. 1080p for both consoles or not?

It's wonderful that you're all on modern gaming PCs playing on three monitors on ultra at 60 FPS, but contrary to your belief, 30 FPS is perfectly fine for this kind of game - and most kinds of single player games. I should know, I play nearly everything at 30-40 FPS. As long as I can avoid sudden FPS drops, it's fine. Drops are what people should be worried about (and lag, as usual). Admittedly, drops from 60 to 45 are much less inconvenient than from 30 to 15, so you have an advantage there.

I agree that less than a month away from console release they should have this information finalized and available to buyers.

Simple answer - WHAT IS THE XBOX ONE BETA RES RUNNING IN?

Clearly, if the Xbone/PS4 versions of ESO *were* running in 1080 and at 30FPS by this point, the mod would have answered that they were running at 1080 30FPS.

The lack of that affirmative answer does in fact give us *an* answer, just not the one we want. ;)

Boy, first no chat window in an MMORPG for Pete's sake, and now this. Is Zenimax trying for another bombed launch like the PC version had here or what?

  • aConsoleCouple
Personally I don't care about the resolution, I just want a stable frame rate lol.

Would be nice though for ZoS to confirm the resolution and frame rate ( and whether it's stable ) now, considering it's so close to launch.

30fps being fine isnt the point.
Even on good gaming rigs in cyrodil fps can drop to 20~15 fps, and thats on rigs that average 60 or better.
I think the point is if 30 fps is the target ... Wtf is gonna happen when the fps DROPS? System crash?
Or perhaps people have enought faith left to think the game will be flawless and never slowdown or drops fps when in high stress gameplay?
    Thats what im worried about.
Also starting to think no chat logs is more about preventing too much grouping in 1 area, population in cyrodil will prolly be a fracrion of whats available on pc
Then we can all ohh and an ahh about how refreshing it is ... To Pvp with hardly any1 lol

@Naivefanboi I'm willing to bet some money the fps won't drop much if at all on consoles. It's easier to optimize, and they have devoted a lot more time to consoles than to PC. In fact I think consoles are more than capable of running this game at 60fps and they just cap it at 30; maybe in Cyrodill they have let it run at 60fps but with the drop it falls down to 30 without players realizing it. It's what I would do anyways.

This maybe true, but this is a MMO we're talking about. It's not about graphics, in a mmo rendering objects, interactables and PLAYERS is done by the CPU not gpu as much. While the Jaguar apu may run most games fine, that is not a indicator a mmo of eso proportions is going to run fine when 200 players clash in thornblade for example. A game such as this has never been seen on a console (and no, Destiny doesn't count) also beta was too short for people to hit appropriate levels and test a full scale Cyrodiil attack, if at all. So there is no definitive data to prove fps drops won't be a issue.
Console versions maybe are stramlined, but their hardware is still very weak, even a 5 year old gaming PC is more powerful.
    Streamlining only goes so far...

Simple answer - WHAT IS THE XBOX ONE BETA RES RUNNING IN?

Almost everyone that I know of that played the Beta said that both were 1080p/30fps (for the most part). I know for myself, I can tell the difference, but that was the beta, it did have some issues, like combat to me seemed sluggish/delayed compared to the PC version. This could of been due to lag/servers or it could of been the game itself.

While, the beta from what I played was 1080p, who knows what the release version will be running at. They could reduce resolution to 900p to improve frame rate even more, but until ZOS says something official we will not know. It would be nice to hear it from them before DF does their analysis "after" release.

I tend to agree on this. I was actually surprised this thread didn't instantly get answered. This seems to be one of those cut and dry, easy answers for moderators.

Instead we get pointed to a 3 month old KB that has 'targeting' 1080p 30fps. I'm assuming the only console still in question is Xbox One, normally PS4 always hits 1080p.

You are assuming they learnt from kill zone being advertised as 1080p (said so on the box)

If it's true 1080P then it'll be pretty good, but I wouldn't be suprized if it's 960 x 1080 with temporal up-scaling to make it look trick, then add some video cut scene's that are 1080p just for legality. Game is rated up to 1080p (see what I did there)

It would have been more fitting to buy the console copy online. Then a ZOS employee comes over to your house, places it on your doorstep in a brown paper bag, sets it alight then rings your doorbell and runs like hell!

it might be reasonable to say that one (or perhaps even both) consoles is unable to hit the targets. In such a case, rather than lose sales ZoS will obfuscate on the issue.

It's all conjecture at this point though.

also: who the hell bought an X1? masochist much?
