On the Subject of Lag

Do you experience lag in-game? If so, where? What kind? Let’s see how many players this issue is affecting!

First, let’s get a few things straight:

Graphical lag: The game freezes, becomes unresponsive, or your frame rate takes a significant drop
Server lag: Enemies, other players, and NPCs freeze in place; combat becomes difficult or impossible, but not due to frame rate drops; ping rate rises significantly

This poll also assumes that you’re running graphics settings that are appropriate for your PC or Mac. If you’re having lag at settings higher than your setup can handle, that’s your own fault.

Interesting -- is it only near the main city of Daggerfall, or is it zone-wide? I know I've had both graphical and server issues while in Daggerfall City.

It was twice for last 2 months. I was leveling my newb templar. It's happened once in Daggerfall, when i was unable to interract and once in the field.
But in the field it can be just another templar's bug with not-working skills.
I've played not much this char, so i can't be sure it is really rare, but i'm sure it's only Glenumbra.

I experience server lag everywhere

It is not too common, but sometimes just when solo-questing the game just does not react for a few seconds to any ability button I hit, movement still works though. During this the FPS and Latency remain unchanged, so this must be something server side.

Last time I had this in Bankorai (silver veteran zone for me), on the EU server; I had this also as other zones while solo questing, altough back then I had not activated the display of FPS and Latency so I cannot be certain these remained unchanged back then as well.

As I have not been into Cyrodil yet I have no idea about that area; I am casually leveling my toon through the Cadwells quests at the moment.

Most of the time while playing, whenever I take a glance, I'm seeing around 50/50: 50 FPS, 50 ms(?) of latency(?). While FPS can vary between 30 - 60 depending on scenery and player traffic (2560x1440 fullscreen resolution on default High quality settings, AA and VSYNC enabled), latency usually varies between 40 and 150, with very rare peaks around 180. Pure ICMP Echo_Request roundtrip time measured by ping(8) is 11 -13 ms all the time, playing from Germany on the Frankfurt/Main based EU Megaserver data center. I have not yet experienced unresponsiveness, mid-zone loading screens, or freezes.

My experiences do not include Cyrodiil.

Server lag for me can happen anyway when the server feels like being extra crap.

But Graphical lag though. Only in Major towns like Mournhold if I don't restart game once in a while. Memory leak added in with the game trying to load the entire city while I'm only at the gate...

Need to add : Exploitable Lag - When Abilities are not working due to server stress of recording many ability all at once causing players to take no damage but be able to repair walls, cap keep flags or pick up scrolls.

graphical lag once in a while, no more than to be expected from an MMO, I suppose. Server lag quite a bit in major hubs, and most of the time while in Cyrodiil. Non-vet it would predominately be while lots of players with lots of 'stuff' going on were on-screen. Vet campaigns it is nearly unplayable. I'll be killed by an enemy player, then after I'm dead they will appear, run off, then a few seconds later their spells and what not will come flying at my corpse. Even if I am alone at a keep firing a treb at 2 or 3 enemies quite a distance away, it is bad. They kind of stutter around the screen instead of actually walk or run. I'm guessing that the vet campaigns have a higher pop cap on them? Also all 3 alliances are always pop capped in the vet campaigns I've played in, whereas the non-vet it is always one alliance pop capped, and the other two are pretty dead.

I experience server lag, but only in major hubs

My situation is sort of versatile. On bad days I get a certain amount of server lag and graphical lag in every area I go in, but this easily enough remedied as soon as reboot my router or check the internet connection. Nothing too bad there aside from minor annoyances (and occasionally some frustration).

On good days I seldom ever get a lag of any sort, save for Cyrodil. However, it should be noted that I always turn down my graphics to the minimal setting when I enter Cyrodil so that I may reduce server lag. It works most of the time but there are a few instances when server lag is experienced regardless. But I think I should attribute that my own internet connection rather than anything else.

So....barely any graphical lag, but a decent amount of server lag. Especially in populated areas.

Server lag is legendary in Cyrodiil. FPS drops are also common in Cyrodiil, going from 80 to 15 in a matter of seconds.
In towns/hubs I have around 25-40 FPS, which frankly is unacceptable.

Yup, lag like this happened when I was in Cyrodiil earlier today.

I experience both periodically, and it seems to get waaaaaay worse when I'm logging in and out of my bank alts. I've noticed if I completely quit and relaunch it seems to go back to normal, until I start logging in and out again that is. It never used to be this way, in fact seems to have gotten worse over time since last summer, can't remember what patch specifically. But I can be in the middle of town, or out in the wilderness and poof ping rate is through the roof and fps drops to single digits

I have experienced both somewhat pretty much every time I play. I get severe graphical lag in Coldharbour and not so much crowded spaces. I get the skill not responding lag a bunch lol. And the rare but happening screen freeze.

I experience server lag everywhere

I never had a problem with lag until Oct-Nov. Since then its been sporadic. I've also lost almost 60 fps. Lately I've sen my ping go from 80 to 17k which normally sits around 70-80.
