Race Respec Confirmation

"Helluin: I recall that during Update 6 on PTS, racial passive skills would receive a rebalance sometime after Update 6. Is this planned for the next major update after console release or for an incremental patch?
We want to release balance updates to the racial passives at the same time we allow players to respec their race. Otherwise it is unfair to everyone if one race was a poor mage at launch but then becomes one of the top choices. For the next major update we’ll make some minor adjustments to the least popular races."

Am I reading this right? They will allow you to respec your race?

I think it would be better to just make racial passive changes part of the upcoming spell crafting system. Like the ability for an imperial player to drop the stamina bonus for a magicka bonus. They could weave it into personal character lore somehow.
End the tedious inventory management game.

I do not have time for alts so I am up for any respec of race, class, etc., but your idea is not half bad. :)

Racial background trees! The passives that are available now could be grouped into overall categories (resources, regens, defense, offense, etc). The player gets to select one from three different categories, thus avoiding regen/resource stacking.

The cost to change this could/should be very expensive; 100,000 + gold would be a starting point.

I have a suggestion since we're on the topic of race balancing. Racial background isn't the only thing about a character, what about his culture background? Any race and and alliance could pick one and each culture could have something neat. Could also be merged into the racial passive line and rename it to something like: "Racial & Culture passives".

This could also be very in line with lore as well! I haven't thought it through completely and I don't really have the patience to, but I think there might be something there. Hope a mod finds this =3

We don't want to do a complete rebalancing of all racial passives until the respec feature is complete so players would be able to switch over to whatever race bonuses they like the best. However in the mean time we plan to tweak the less powerful races for the next major update.

Okay so... does that mean what I think it means? All passives are up for grabs it sounds like and you can mix and match? Like an Orc with magicka regen and spell power buffs maybe? Or maybe just able to respec your race completely?

Sorry but, who cares about "lore"... this is a game, realism is obviously not always part of the equation. Trying to keep this "realistic" would involve the mindset that every person of a race is EXACTLY THE SAME, let alone not even considering mixed races- apparently Bretons are the only mixed race of the game.

What they need to do is do away with racial passives and give us options we select during character creation- give us choices out of various categories; 1 from this category, 1 from that category, etc. This way the player would be able to choose their character's strengths, without relying on same bogus "exactly the same" racial concept.

why not make all races...work with all playstyles...

Just change passives to things that help overall

Some people like me wanna be a khajiit and play a mage, I do not wanna be a breton even if its better all races should have its perks for all playstyles.

I hope they make it like that.

I hope the race change is only a one-time thing when they update the passives. That, or have there be limit (like 2 times a year) if it appears in the crown store.

I'd expect it to be more like:

During the Reddit AMA they claimed that in the next major patch that they will show some love to some of the less revered races in terms of passive. They also stated that they will not do any major overhaul on racial passive until the respec system has already launched.
I really appreciate the approach they are taking for this, one step at a time. Thank you ZoS.

It sounds more like they will allow you to respec your racial passives to a different races passives. But I think either or would be greatly appreciated by most players.

They already let loose a few week ago during an ESO Live that they are working on implementing a Race Change in the Crown Store. There were several long threads in the General forum about it for weeks. Looking forward to the buffs in update 2.1!

I wouldn't mind if on my Orc DK I could make him have Dunmer passives or any of the other magic races passives.

It would be so cool if you could change race but keep your appearance. (Might actually be interesting for ZoS to earn money so people choose a race for appearance and later buy race change for the passives). Since I really love my Redguard DK but I need the Dunmer passives but I don't really like their appearance.

But that's probably not going to happen.

We learned that race change is not a sure thing. They said they would revisit the idea after the Imperial City release, but they aren't actively working on it.

Also, the changes to the races were revealed. Argonian passives will still suck.
