ESO Windowed Mode Crashed Video Card Drivers (Only happens in Windowed Mode)

I have a MSI GTX 980 OC 4GB video card. This crash only happens during window mode. The crash seems to be happening when there is a spike in power% according to MSI Afterburner.

The crash happens exactly when there is a spike in power from 40% to a spike to 100% instantly. This only happens though in certain areas during main missions, pledge dungeons, etc. So far I only experience video card crashing in ESO alone in windowed mode. This issue never happens during fullscreen. I prefer to play Windowed mode but it seems to be impossible so far. I hope to see a fix for it soon though. I have benchmarked / stress tested my system and I am pretty sure it isn't an issue with my pc, but the game itself.

Hoping to hear if there is a fix in plan or something. I am 100% sure this is a issue with the game itself that needs to be fixed.

I'm having the same issue. I played Titanfall for 4 hours with no issues, and these blue screen flickers started after under 30mins of playing ESO. I've been playing on medium quality (HIS R9 270X video card). I won't go to full-screen because it could flicker and turn black, but if it's in windowed mode, minimizing could temporarily eliminate the problem until the game is turned off from the task manager.

There is an issue with the 980's and the Power Management Mode setting for certain games.

In the Nvidia Control Panel, search for ESO.exe and change the Power Management Mode setting from Adaptive to Prefer Maximum Performance.

Doing this fixed 100% the random crashes I was having in this game.

I actually tried the game in fullscreen mode and I actually never crash or have this issue. This issue only happens in Windowed Mode. So this is a issue because of the game itself and not the hardware.

Bumping this up until a dev can respond if there will be a fix for this issue. Since it is pretty obvious this issue is because of the game.

Fair comments, but presumably the interim answer is to play in fullscreen mode? Assuming, that is, that Netswine's advice doesn't work for everyone as a workaround, if not as a solution.

I didn't do Netswine's advice. In all honesty though I shouldn't need to change or mess with that setting when it is obviously because ESO is messed up in some way that needs to be fixed.

I hope to hear from a developer that they will be looking into this issue soon and plan on fixing in within the next 2 patchs hopefully. 2 of my friends also experience the same issue also using 980s. The game forces random power increase spikes for some reason. This obviously should not happen. Fullscreen it is fine, Windowed Mode, no. Like I said I prefer to play Windowed Mode. Either they need to fix it or remove Windowed Mode entirely.

Any suggestions for optimal CPU or GPU priority settings for AMD Catalyst drivers?

I have the latest optimized Catalyst 5.14 Beta as well as the current MSI-Afterburner. GPU is integrated AMD Radeon HD 7650M with 2 MB dedicated VRAM. I could play ESO during Closed Beta with graphics set to Ultra and get 60 FPS.

After about Patch 4, frame rate dropped precipitously. Now I struggle to get 15-25 FPS :( using modified Low settings, ESO running Windowed mode. I prefer Windows mode to have access to my TeamSpeak client for Guild chat.

    TIA

Bumping this up again. I am still hoping to get a response from Zenimax about this issue. Like I said this issue only happens in Windowed Mode but never in Fullscreen. It is obviously an issue with the game itself. So far it seems that Zenimax may be aware of the issue but ignoring it.

Maybe you should start your own thread for this. It's more likely to be seen, and hopefully someone with AMD knowledge can help you.

Not sure if this is helpful for your situation, but is fullscreen-windowed mode a viable option for you? Its been mentioned by ESO as an option to help with memory leaks. Personally I had problems with this mode and had to switch back to fullscreen.
