Weapon Damage?

Does the actual damage of Basic / Heavy attacks (left click) getting any effect from stamina / magicka? Or does it on go off of Weapon Skill line for that?

When I create say, a bow, will it do the same base damage regardless of stats from basic attacks?

If I create a 2H Sword will the tooltip show how much a basic attack will do regardless of stamina / magicka?

Light and heavy attacks Are based on stamina/magika, not skills.

Incorrect, I just tested this with a 2H Battle Axe

It did the same damage with light and basic attacks with a Stamina build as it did with a Magicka build. So no, the base damage of basic attacks have nothing to do with your primary stats, only when using the weapon skill line does this have any effect.

id assume the amount of weapon damage you have is more relevant than the amount of stamina you have

stamina does not affect the damage caused by basic attacks, on skills under the weapon skill line are affected by stamina. Same goes for staff users, if you are a Stamina build then the staff will perform basic attacks equal to a magicka user UNLESS you are using weapon skills and not basic attacks.

BASIC and HEAVY attacks do damage based on the crafted or looted stats. For example, someone who crafts a superior Battle Axe will show the damage it will cause, upgrading it to legendary will increase the damage, which is displayed on the actual weapon. The weapon itself does damage based on the quality and traits. You can not make basic / heavy attacks do more damage from your primary attribute, ONLY weapon skills from the skill line itself have any benefit from Stamina/Magicka.

Just means my basic attacks with my 2H are unaffected by my magicka build using all class skills

It goes off "weapon damage" in character stats.

I like this a lot, it doesn't pigeonhole magicka builds into using staves. I've seen magicka NBs run 2H successfully.

Yup, I agree 100% that this is a wonderful thing because it allows us to enjoy our weapon of choice

The damage you do begins with the base stat on the weapon itself. More of the respective attribute will make the damage go up, though not drastically. It's the very reason you can Light Attack for values greater than the weapon's listed damage, even without a Crit or CP's.

Stamina will increase Weapon Damage, Magicka will increase Spell Damage.

Staves are the only weapons that go off Spell Damage vice Weapon damage, even though the weapon damage (incorrectly) shows a number. That number simply reflects the number under Spell Damage. Vice versa for stamina based weapons incorrectly showing spell damage. (This is a bug, and it will increase your skill line damage, though it makes no sense whatsoever.)

I think you're thinking of it as a penalty, not an increase. Wielding a stamina based weapon with a Magicka build or vice versa will never reduce the LA/HA attack value, but increasing the appropriate stat will most definitely do so.

The caveat with this is that there is no reason to use Weapon Damage glyphs when using Staves, nor Spell Damage glyphs when using non-staves.

At the ground level, a V1 Blue 2H axe (non-set) will hit for the same amount as any other V1 Blue 2H axe. The differences come with set items, enchants, and primary stats (or skills/buffs that increase them).

(You can see this directly simply by consuming some food and then using the same weapon's. Eat some Magicka food and attack with a basic sword and your LA/HA values will not change. Eat some stamina food and they will increase. Again, vice versa for Staves)
