We all know it is coming - race changes - when do you think it will be in the Crown Store?

As the title says, we all know by now with the release of the crown store that Race Changes were soon to follow. Now we can buy all motifs, and respec skills / attributes with just a very short time of the crown store release. @ZoS will be working to capitalize on sales with the crown store, that much is true. We can all expect to see name and race changes with the Crown Store. Though many are happy with it and many dislike the idea, for whatever reasons, it will happen. It is an opportunity for ZoS to make additional sales, and they will act on it as they should.

Now, the question! When do you think they will release this feature? I suspect before the console release, but at the rate of items being added to the Crown Store it might be much sooner than I guessed. I did not expect any character changing services so fast (skill / attribute resets) yet here we are with both for sale at 700 Crowns each. I personally will be race changing my Argonian after the 1.6 changes.

If they balanced racial passives there wouldn't be as great of a need for Race Change...

Offering race change in the store encourages them to deprioritize balancing racial passives. It is further undermines any sense of permanence (and therefore importance) to one's choices in the game. The cynic in me wonders if ZOS will keep all racial passives as is, but introduce race change option first. After a couple months, they will finally see the light and rebalance the passives, after which people will pay to change again... such is the way of game monetization.

I can't wait to see it be really expensive. Since there appears to be such a demand for it, might as well take advantage of the playerbase for a little bit at least.

After all the changes they made everyone should get one free race change that played before 1.6 launched to even the playing field.

Im not against race changes. But for me I would much rather change my Faction on a few characters. These are characters that I would love to play, but I have settled into AD and do not want to play any other faction. If I could bring them over, that would be sweet.

Not soon enough. This is one of the few (non-fluff) things I strongly support as a cash shop item because it was ZOS that made many racial passives irrelevant on existing VR characters. In fact I wish we could get it for free since zos is responsible, but I am realistic about it.

Don't get me wrong. I approve of many changes they have made. Particularly to stamina. But optional race change should come along with it.

They made Dunmer fire resist less useful that Breton Spell Resist, which now is more effective at reducing fire damage. So this, on top of the Dunmer fire resist nerf, with the 1.6 changes forcing my play style to Magicka based, has me wanting to race change to a Breton because the passives will certainly give my character the boost it needs after 1.6 went live. Before the changes of 1.6, I have no desire or intention to race change.

@ZOS_GinaBruno - Any idea when we can expect this in the Crown Store?

I do not suspect they would allow any faction changes, I believe they will focus on Race / Name changing. Perhaps one day they would offer faction changes though.

Honestly, I think you are most likely right. They are releasing stuff to the Crown Store weekly now, from pets, to respec, motifs, etc. The cash shop is getting loads of attention, and I like it since it gives me stuff to spend my Crowns on as a subscriber.

2 months tops. It's probably the most highly requested thing along with dyeable costumes now.
That being said, I'm perfectly happy with my imperial, thank you very much. I would desperately like a class change though.

1.6 forced you to go magicka? You're literally the first person I've heard(seen) say that...

I do agree with you on Dunmer, I personally will change my DK and my NB, both of which are dark elf.

I think they will want to be careful...

Buy standard game, roll a Dunmer fighting for EP.

Convert Dunmer to Breton - still with EP faction.

You've now just made a monkey out of the people who bought the Explorer's pack precisely so they could have a Breton in EP.

Interesting - I was not aware of this. Would you say that Breton is now the "safest" race to be a vampire in terms of fire damage mitigation?

Also, I'm all for the race change options, and would like to take this opportunity to plug yet another request for extra character slot options as well!

Yes, Breton spell resist is more effective than dunmer fire resist

I think they need to turn all racial passives to fluff first.

Of course, if they are smart, they will also implement the barber shop before the race change, so you can adjust your character.

Can you imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth if they just flip the character settings from one race to another without letting players make adjustments?

...I'll be sitting in the front row with a huge bowl of popcorn if that happens.

I assume it will not need a barber shop, based on how name change works. When a name change is enabled, when you select the character, you can't do anything with it until you type a new name and confirm. I would expect that clicking on or attempting to load into a character with the race change enabled would take you to the character creation screen.

They would be aware of this and make faction races the only choice unless you have the explorer's pack.

Example: You are Argonian and want to race change, your option is Nord or Dunmer unless you paid for the explorer pack. Which I am sure they will be happy to offer to make additional money on top of the race change.

Yes, Breton now provides better Fire Resist stats for a Vampire over Dunmer.

    Hopefully this month.

A lot of the really popular races during launch were magicka based on how strong it was versus stamina. Races like orcs and redguards with strong stamina passives were mostly ignored in favor of magicka based passives like altmer, breton and dunmer. That being said I think they should take another look at the racials and rebalance them a bit.

Things like Robust, Amphibious and the weak %resist plus a lower %base stat; eg. Resist Frost plus 3% stam, are much weaker than their counterparts that give a flat 10% boost to a stat. I think they need to split up the racial passives into a fourth line where one of them is pretty much a flavor stat; like resist frost, swim speed, etc. and give everyone a 10% passive to a certain stat.

Typically the stats like 10% health, magicka, stamina are found with races who have overall stronger racials (strength = raw stat increase) with a fairly balanced or at least useful passive ability like Red Diamond or Elemental Talent. I don't want racials like this to go away; it gives you a reason to want to play a certain race depending on your play style.

Personally I hate this "Musical Chairs" approach to balancing racials and would far prefer if they nerfed them all down to the point were they offered no more than a 5% bonus to whatever.

I have never seen in any mmo where racials can give things like 21% boosts to a stat, let alone have that come into play 8 months after release. The reason you don't see that is for balancing.
