Since 1.6 I've found motifs with about the same frequency as pre-1.6. They drop from the same containers they always have, the only difference being that instead of a thousand lockpicks, alchemy solvent, and racial stone drops to every motif, there are random Legerdemain object thrown into the mix ... some of which can be purple themselves, which may or may not slightly decrease your chance of a purple motif or recipe drop.

Perfect! Thanks for clearing that up for me. But it still doesn't explain why I have yet to find any motifs in Wayrest but I find them everywhere else. Even though I have farmed Wayrest far more often than any other area. But maybe it could. RNG?
As far as I know (or from my experience), you won't find any motifs in containers that are labelled 'steal'. I've found two motifs so far in normal random houses that are not labelled 'steal'. If you want any specific motif, whisper me in game, and maybe we can do a swap. I'm currently looking to trade, so, if you have any motifs (except wood elf, orc, khajit, breton, and redguard), and want to trade, whisper me in game.

The only bad thing was that it was in a chest that is unlootable because there is no position that I can find that makes me hidden so I can loot it. So I looted it anyway and ran for the door and needless to say I died... I really wish we were able to leave buildings after getting caught. As I have not been able to find a way I am going to assume its not possible at least for me anyway.
I believe they changed how the loot system works. I tend to farm Avanchnzel for Dwemer motifs. As of 1.5, I could run the delve, log out, log back in and all the pots would be refilled. Now, they're the exact same as when I left. However, zone out, wai 15 minutes, zone back in, they're filled again (even without logging out). So there is definitely a timer in place to help tone down farming of some sort.Usually when I go to Wayrest all of the containers are empty, like drawers open, cabinets open empty. Every.single.one.
I stopped going because it was a waste of time.
