Interesting about going mostly heavy, would mean a spell resist, regen and penetration all go down. Suppose it's not really helping me much anyway.
As of 1.6, your spell resist is derived from the armor value of your gear, so I imagine it will be higher in heavy than light armor, even taking into account the Spell Warding passive from light armor.
Note there was a bug with the Nirnhorned trait that ignores 100% of spell resist; however, I believe this was fixed in 2.0.1.0
