I read somewhere that ESO had gone free to play, but on log in I find I still need a subscription. I am not adverse to paying the sub, just thought it was free that's all.

TESO will go b2p+shop after 17 March.But you will need to buy DLC or pay sub to get DLC for freeI read somewhere that ESO had gone free to play, but on log in I find I still need a subscription. I am not adverse to paying the sub, just thought it was free that's all.

Exactly. They are a business, they need to make money.
If you stay subscribed, you get a couple small bonuses, as well you will have access to all the DLC they release. Well, just to clarify:
Updates will still occur to the game system, and free players will still be downloading those patches for ability changes, etc. I would assume the PvP portion of the Justice System falls under this, since it's not something that you can only have part of the world participating in.
DLC, as MissBizz points out, will be new areas and all the new content/skill lines/items/etc. that come with them.----

Naor_Sarethi✭✭✭I returned early march, couldn't wait for the 17th so i added a 60day sub to it, basically getting 2 months of esp plus membership with more free crowns. So far it has gotten a lot better since launch except for new maps. So throughout this year i think i will stick around and see how well the game will do and most of all what the devs are going to make of it.
But the new paymodel is a good step in the right direction.1
