Faction loyalty . . . what is the benefit?

Hello Everyone,

This is not an entitlement thread i.e. "I deserve 'this' because of 'this' . . . " Rather it is a suggestion to enhance faction loyalty and give players a reason to operate the majority of their characters in one faction.

Ever since pre-launch I have kept all of my characters in the Daggerfall Covenant. Aside from the feeling of intense faction loyalty, there are not too many in game benefits to having all 8 of your characters in one faction.

Should there be some sort of incentive and/or reward for having all of your characters or a majority of your characters in the same faction? Maybe a faction store in the capital of your faction where characters can buy (with gold) some cosmetic and maybe useful faction items? There should definitely be unique items that only die hard faction loyalists would be able to pick up, possibly through achievements or something else.

I'm so committed to DC that I even turned all my low level Lion Guard equipment that I got from completing Glenumbra quests into legendary equipment for the sheer coolness of it . . . it's great at parties! I'll try and post screenshots soon.

I agree. DAoC had it right back in the day when you picked a faction and you were stuck with it. That game, before it allowed realm hopping, and pride!
GW2 and TESO don't have that same pride, and I would love to see that in a game again.

I have all my characters in the same faction. However, I think it is better for the community to be able to have characters in multiple factions. The big thing is that it is more likely to be balanced that way. If you had to pick a faction then most people would want to be in the dominate faction which then brings more players to that dominate faction and it just gets worse for everyone else as time goes on.

But we can't switch factions in ESO... I never played DAoC, what are you talking about? Was it forbidden to have characters in different factions at all? If so, then I'll take free socialising with real people over pride in a fictional kingdom any day of the week.

When I started, I didn't know you could play through all regions with one fraction with Cadwells silver/gold, so I made characters in each to see the stories.

Now... I sometimes wonder, IF the game had the option to change fraction, would I let them stay where they are, or would I concentrate all my alts in the pact with my two main characters? Quite possibly the latter...

I'm not suggesting that players be locked into a faction . . . I am suggesting that players who voluntarily stick with one faction have some extra things to do so they can show their faction pride. So for you, since you have all your characters in one faction you should have some other options available to you to show your faction pride.

Having characters on multiple factions doesn't mean you aren't loyal to your main's faction and can be interesting to see how they compare, especially if your rolling a different race on each character and want to stick to their appropriate alliance so not to further pollute your own alliance with non member races.

I like being able to have the choice of any or all factions.

If you just want to play DC cool.

But I enjoy playing all 3 :) don't deny me privledges because I enjoy all factions. We are all loyal to the game.
Why encourage people to limit themselves?

There are different gear sets that help us show our faction pride :) but faction rewards need to be similar so they are equivalent or else one faction will cry favoritism.

I'm not encouraging people to limit themselves. I just think everyone, like you also suggest, have more ways to show their faction pride.

So, what are you suggesting? That if you have 8 toons in one faction you can buy a faction tabard, or have access to a special motif, or maybe access to a VIP area only for "loyalists?" Maybe they could give you the option to play all 8 characters at once, stacked and combined into Voltron.

Those are all great ideas . . . especially the Voltron one lol

A faction tabard would be awesome. I guess it does not need to be all of your characters just the majority. ESO should offer something for the die hard faction loyalists because it would just be fun. That's the soul purpose if my original suggestion . . . to have more fun. Also a faction motif would be pretty awesome. The exclusive loyalist hangout seems a bit over the top, but hey who knows.

PS I know you were being sarcastic

OMG you gave me a brilliant idea . . .
Have a questline in cyrodil to become a "Bannerman/Banner woman" for you faction AD, DC, EP
When you complete the quest ( or it could be achievement) you get "Lion or Dragon or Eagle banner" depending on your faction. It can go to your collection items and then you can assign a hotkey to place your banner on the field of battle in cyrodil or even other pve zones. Obviously only characters of that faction could place that banner I.e. only your AD characters can place the Eagle Banner etc. Banners would be purely cosmetic.

I like this idea. I think ZOS should allow you to play any/all factions, but otherwise the game really needs to encourage players much, much more to commit to one faction as their main. Having exclusive rewards or aesthetic, cosmetic bonuses would help with that.
