[suggestion] Competition Server

OK, here is a suggestion for a really easy addition (I think) that would make pvpers happier (I think).

Create one (or several, maybe a 100 CP, 1000 CP and 3600CP....whatever is appropriate) competition PvP server where players can use template characters to PvP. This allows new players who are not interested in PvE to instantly jump into PvP. It allows for equal competitive play because template characters do not get additional skill points, level up skills, gain exp, gain CP or any other advantage over other players. They do not gain access to crafting skills or the account bank. Whatever other restrictions are needed to ensure an equal playing field. They have access to a gear customizer which allows creation of any item in the game...thus everyone can fully customize their deam build (within the CP/SP/VR restrictions of the bracket)....perhaps they could earn CP exp for their account ??? Dunno on that (obviously it couldn't be used on the competition character if it was earned).

Perhaps each campaign is a tournament lasting maybe 30days, if you win (under whatever the win conditions are) then perhaps you get a specialty mount or 1000 crowns or a winners pet...idk some aesthetic and desirable reward that is unlocked on your account.

The premise is that there will not be a differential in power levels between different characters and it will be a completely equal competition. Each month the templates could change (if there are not enough players to support multiple campaigns) but maybe the first 30 day campaign is fresh VR 1 with no CP. Next month t can be VR14 with 3600 CP, the month after its all level 10's with 100 CP....anyways it changes to keep the competition fresh and keep pvpers constantly designing new builds for different power levels.

I dunno the specifics are all in the air but the basic concept is the player can install the game create an account and jump right in to competitive PvP and be instantly on equal footing with everyone else.

What's your thoughts?

What ideas do you have for different campaign rules? Maybe all players have to use "of the sun" gear or all players must be vampire/werewolf, superhero (max everything, no limits) mode....idk hit it with your best idea!

Hmmm guess i forgot to explicitly mention it is locked in the PvP campaign, but obviously it would have to be not allowed to interact with the rest of the world or the other account (except the cosmetic prize or crown reward ...which would goto the main account).

Huh... I mean I wouldn't be against it, it'd be fun, help tests future builds... But I can't see ZOS handing out CP even like this, they want us to grind for it

Y u lol dis? One big complaint I see is that new players cannot compete with geared VR14...r u fraid dis is fare war?

I guess I was thinking zos wants players to do many activities and earn CP so if when 1.6 launches I can go do dungeon or PvP on my VR14 and ideally earn CP at the same rate...so I just thought that PvP in the "competition arena" would fall under that same earning cycle...I'm not opposed to it generating 0 CP for the account whatever zos thinks is best. Just afraid if it didn't then it might discourage players from using the fair footing PvP system in favor of earning CP in the currently existing system.

Really that's a small detail that zos should decide and has little impact on the concept

So this is like PTS templates ?
Could kill two birds with one stone I guess.
1. Keep everyone on a level footing.
2. Let ZOS perfect the class balance using it as a test server.
3. Let players see how good/bad they really are and develop each others skills.
4. Let min/maxers find all the exploits bugs and not report them straight away

Exactly ...and change it up each campaign.. .different numbers of skill points different numbers of cp points different levels different gear....and heck if they wanna test out new stuff sure give it to the competition servers to see how balanced it is before pushing it to pts and then live. I bet pvpers would go bonkers to get to trial up and coming skills/builds/gear etc... In a more balanced and fair competitive area.

Sounds more like a MOBA than an MMO. Novel idea, but this is what the PTS is for. I don't see them going out of their way to make this a thing.

Now you're putting words in my mouth...I am also guilty of disliking cheaters...I still think that things are only considered cheating because of a psychological down hill snowball which will cause future generations to have even more stringent beliefs of what cheating is...thus creating more restrictions and reducing gameplay options. I do not support people violating TOS in fact I think they should follow it as put forth since it is a legal document. I also don't believe people should be allowed to violate other people copyright or illegally download music on torrent sites...but I think the mentality is pushing the community in a direction and there are no breaks on the train....which I do see as a problem...what will be considered cheating tomorrow? Mashing two buttons at once? Anyways this is an entirely different topic so let's leave closed threads closed....

What exactly do you see problematic about PvP instances where everyone has the same number of skill points, champion points, same level and level appropriate similar quality items?

If testing new stuff on it is not in the plan that's fine also the important point is all players can join and are not forced to level to participate and all people playing it are on equal footing...if they want to test fine if not fine...but what's wrong with a PvP arena where skill is everything?

@tplink3r1 also as an aside this idea is a derivation of the previous thread you mentioned where many players expressed that their big problem with cheaters was that it created an unlevel playing field especially in competitive activities. This suggestion creates an explicitly level playing field for PvP...I guess you could evolve this concept for various trials leagues as well given set capability thresholds.

This is meant to ensure equality in competition which seems to be a common (and legitimate) concern/desire.

As fun and convenient as this sounds this completely goes against 'character progression' which is a fundamental part of an MMO such as ESO.

If you really wanted to you could get a group of players to pvp on PTS only using the provided templates, but I don't think many would be interested as they wouldn't be progressing their live characters.

While I agree that it goes against character progression, I do not think this is an issue here's why:

1) I see many pvpers complain that they just want to PvP and do not want to pve

2) If they do like character progression they can still level and fight a character the way we currently do.

3) It may open up the game to a different crowd ... And well more players = more money = more future additions

4) Even you said it is "fun and convenient" I mean yeah....so Zeni wants to sell comvience items maybe it costs $10 for a character slot that can be used on the competitive server ...and you can have up to 10 (for different builds, looks, names etc..).

5) It would allow true min/maxing...if racials change then you can easily reroll...you can completely maximize based on the campaign rules.

Ohhh and here's another idea....these characters and campaigns could have reduced equipment costs (cause you would have to earn your equipment during the campaign)...each time a campaign ends your gear etc is reset that way you can still
Customize ...but it is on the 30 day cycle instead of the much longer mmo cycle or the much shorter fps cycles. This creates a nice middle ground for people who like the mmo and fps by creating a hybrid of the two.

I like the idea of making some aspects of the game more competitive, but I doubt ZOS likes that idea. Especially with all their focus on Immersion and character progression, which both are very hard to implement in a competitive environment.
