Style Motifs more available...

I've noticed that it's very difficult to get style motifs, especially things like Imperial, Ancient Elf, Barbaric and so forth. They sell for utterly obnoxious prices, when you can find them at all. Thus, I've decided to put forward an idea to make them a little easier to get one's hands on.

Basically, it amounts to learning the motif over time by deconstructing items made with that motif. The exact number might vary by the nature of the motif, but I'm thinking something like 100/1000. That is, to learn a "basic" motif, like Nord or Breton, you must deconstruct 100 items. To learn a "rare" motif, like Imperial or Barbaric, you must deconstruct 1000 such items.

What do you think? The exact numbers might need adjusting, but I think the basic idea is good.

I would have agreed to this... two months ago. Heck, I STILL think it's a good idea but I would bank on Motifs being in the Crown Store at some point.

The drops got nerfed due to the farming bots a long time ago, anyone who wasn't able to benefit from the original reasonable drop rate is now forever screwed.

Don't know about drop rates, since I don't farm them. I have to disagree about prices however. Regular motifs sold for 1k in the beginning, now lucky to get a few hundred. I paid over 40k for AE motif, now they are selling for half that. I have some in the bank, including an AE, that are waiting for 1.6 patch. I'm hoping new players and the Justice system will drive demand for them.

I remember when regular motifs sold for 1.5-2.5k. I also remember when I sold an Imperial motif for 3.5k on day 3 of early access....

After update 6 I would not be surprized to see blue motifs at 2-3k ea and purple again at 100k+. Will see.

I have two crafters who both have all the Purple Motifs, one has Imperial. The only one I had to buy was the Imperial. I did buy a couple of the other Purple ones, but I found the same ones later on and sold them for a break even amount.

I still can't find the last Imperial Motif for my Blacksmith, but since I have an Imperial Character, I can just send the items to him, he converts the heavy armor and then sends it to the character who wants it.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Motifs nowadays are super cheap compared to what they used to be. The most expensive being Imperial, used to be up to and over 100k. Now I see them regularly for 50k.

However, I do like the idea and had thought of almost the exact same thing at launch when the motifs were super 'spensive. Would be a cool alternative way to acquire them.

Motif rarity and prices have dropped significantly, but they will likely go back up, unless they become available in the crown store. Either way I'm not against deconning teaching motifs as long as they have to have a certain number of traits researched too.

Yep. Almost all loot containers are [Steal] now, so motif farming will be even harder than ever. I've got a complete set of motifs (10, 11, 12, 13, 14) sitting in my backpack prepared for that. =D

Not true at all, the veteran style motif stones are extremely common in veteran areas. The only one that is rare is dwemer frame.

Also there is nothing wrong with the books being rare, there has to be SOMETHING worth more than 1k in this game...

One day last week, running Avanchnzel, I found in order, Dwemer legs, Ancient Elf, Imperial and then a second Ancient Elf. I also found about a dozen scrap.

And I gave it all away.

Personally I would rather see them implement secondary styles for the basic and rare motifs which you can learn via deconstructing once you have the motif. Motifs are one of the moneymakers and make a nice chunk of change even now when one finds them. I feel bad for the new players who have to spend ages looking for even the basic motifs but the prevalence has kind of made the point of having all of them moot. When someone wants to buy armor from you it is a given you have all of them so it takes away a selling point.

I also wouldn't be surprised if they sell motifs in the crown store, after all they marketed the Imperial style as something only available to those who bought the imperial edition and even support when asked said such a motif did not exist yet it is in the game (rare though it may be, it wasn't supposed to exist at all) with the crown store in serious need of worthwhile items beyond costumes, pets and mounts motifs seem like a natural thing to be included.
