Do you play in 1st or 3rd person?

I wonder how you all prefer to play TESO, if in 1st, 3rd person, or you switch both during the mission.
Explain why. This could be help me and other new players to find the better way to play The Elder Scrolls Online.

3rd person, because I'm usually taking on upwards of 20 mobs at once and I like to be able to see what all is going on and if I'm about to get charged at, etc...

I do prefer 3rd Person for two reasons:

I can see effects on my own character better.

In group dungeons I have a better situational awareness for seeing what goes on behind me.

And then there's that due to no head bobbing 1st Person feels like a camera with two hands attached to it.

It's not matter of preference. I'd prefer 1st person view, but I could not see what is behind my back, where are red circles and if I am CCed or what (not that I could always tell in 3rd person view, quite often the only clue is grayed out skill bar - think of fear in talons). But, most importantly, it would be significant disadvanatge in PvP with people running around in 3rd person view.
If there was 1st person view only campaign, as has been suggested, I'd give it a try.

It's all about situational awareness. In first person view, it sucks. In third person view, it doesn't suck quite as much.

There are times when you need first person view because of the occlusion of objects in a fight, for instance, where those objects end up between the camera and what you're fighting so you can't see what you're doing or what your opponents are doing. There are other times when it's just nice to get a close up view of the objects around you. There is some beautiful art in the game and third person view doesn't do it justice.

Explain why. This could be help me and other new players to find the better way to play The Elder Scrolls Online.

When I first started playing I was in first person, but as soon as I started grouping I went to third and never looked back other than an occasional zoom in to grab an item.

I wonder sometimes if first person view is the primary contributing factor to xxxxx players inability to get out of the red or some other effect in group dungeons.

So I would say that 3rd person is definitely the better way to play if you intend to do group content so that you see all of the effects going on around yourself and/or teammates. (imo anyway)
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

You can vote and explain why.

I play in 3rd person because it allow me to see what happens (expands my view field)

I played all the PVE game up to lvl 50 in 1st person for immersion and the pleasure of better enjoying the scenery.
But right now, at Vet 12, doing a lot of PVP, Dungeon and Raids, I'm only player 3rd person for better visibility / efficiency :-/

3rd person. Always. It's how I grew to enjoy mmorpg's

Also first person limits my view and can be hazardous if trying to stay alive in a world like this

I always play games in 3rd person these days, having sworn by 1st person when playing everything up to and including EQ1. I used to enjoy seeing the world through the eyes of my character, now I'm just more comfortable watching things from behind as well as getting a better perspective of what's going on around my character.

Most importantly, of course, I appreciate a game giving me the choice!

I play 1st person for the great immersion that provide but switch to 3rd when there are more than two mobs (mainly because i play a character who need to avoid special skills to not to be close to dead).

3rd person always for situational awareness and because 1st person in this game tends to give me motion sickness.
I'm not prejudiced; I hate everyone equally !

Oh yeah, serious answer, I play in 3rd person, have played that way since daoc released. I can't imagine playing a mmo in1st person, mostly because, of course, situational awareness, which is also part of the reason I've never had a mobile phone IRL.

3rd person for anything other than sight seeing. I don't mind exploring in 1st, as I usually only "run into" things that matter little for combat. Taking in the sights for awhile in 1st is a great experience, just not useful for anything else (IMO). But I kind of suck as it is, and take away my ability to see my surrounds, and I bet there'd be a poll to get me booted from the game for bumping into everyone and everything, never mind wanting to group with me. ;)
Follow me if I advance, Kill me if I retreat, Avenge me if I die.

When this immediate evil power has been defeated, we shall not yet have won the long battle with the elemental barbarities. Another evil, it may be an invisible adversary, will attempt, again, and yet again, to destroy our frail civilization. Is it true, I wonder, that the only way to escape a war is to be in it?

If I die, you are forgiven, If I live, I will kill you.

First person with PVE because I find it easier to target with the reticule.

PVP requires me to watch behind me, so I use third there. The changes in 1.6 for camera make this more tolerable.

The vast majority of the time I'm in 3rd person to have a better view of all possible enemies. I couldn't imagine playing in Cyrodiil for instance in 1st person.

I might play in1st person for a brief time in easy PvE situations where I want to get a better look at my opponents face and clothing or if I want to check out the cool doodads lying about somewhere. And if there's a really cool painting somewhere or fine artwork, I have to switch to 1st person to soak it in!

First person, always. If I ever have the choice, I play first person. That's more immersive for me and it helps me "get into" the game more.

You should have put a poll up. Can you add one?

What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.

I would prefer to play in 1st person because I find it more realistic and immersive, but I find that any reasonably difficult content in this game just about requires 3rd person. Too many clues and mechanics you miss out on in 1st person. :-(

I miss first person, but I get killed too easily. Initially I found that I was aware of less immersion using 3rd; now I take the time to look at what my character would be looking at (that isn't coming out right; not sure how else to say it).

But I need 3rd person to effectively dodge the red circles of death in the dungeons.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

I tried playing first person for the first day but you just can't see to get out of the red early enough.
