Will you be dumping your Spell Crit and Weapon Crit gear in 1.6?

With the Spell Crit % and Weapon Crit % stat being reduced on gold gear from 4% to 2% (or 1% on lesser quality gear) in 1.6, will you be replacing any gear you have that currently contains these bonuses? Why or why why not?

I currently use three pieces of Willow's Path which has a 4% Spell Crit bonus. With that bonus now reduced to 2%, I am thinking about replacing that gear with three pieces of Cyrodiil's Light which adds Spell Damage instead of Spell Crit. Any thoughts or opinions out there?

I've been scouring the gear set lists and yeah, I think what provides critical will be secondary to what provides damage bonuses, stat bonuses, and regeneration. But, that's just for me, I can't speak for others.

I never used crit gear to begin with, since it used to be worthless in PVP with the way that impenetrable worked. Now that impenetrable has been changed, crit gear might be worth using, but the values on gear does look a bit low. I am sure that ZOS did several calculations to arrive at only 2% bonus. I will probably not be using crit gear in 1.6, but getting crit from other areas like the champion system and wearing medium armor.

I dropped my crit gear as soon as I saw the 2% on pts. Can't really justify 2% crit compared to the amount of spell damage I could replace it with. I don't know where the math is on it but ostensibly it seems like like the right choice.

Yes, and you should be too. Game isn't centered around crit like it was before. Stack your damage base and your resource base. Crit will come from buffs available to everyone in the skill trees and the champ system.
It's still a nice thing to have, but just that, a nice thing to have... not something to focus and gear around anymore.

Yes this is the correct approach. Mage light, medium armor, the new DK spell for Inferno, CP system skills will get you crit. Stack resources, spell or weapon dmg, and regen from armor set bonuses.

I also use Willow's Path, however, if it still gives 15% regen to all stats then I will probably still use it. I did stack crit, but with reduction to magelight etc I may need to adjust.

if you are looking for strait damage (for mages), and have 4 armor slots, martial knowledge might be a good one to look at. With it being + magicka/+spel ldamage/+spell damage I think you might be able to get some nice damage out of it.

I regularly find the VR14 Martial Knowledge pieces in chests in Cyrodiil; but I have always vendored the stuff. I may need to give the set a second look, depending on the traits.

Thank you to everyone who chimed in and unanimously concurred with my initial thoughts. I am glad I have plenty of upgrade mats.

Yea, thinking for melee 5 hunding's rage + 3 ashen grip + 3 twice fanged viper (rings and neck) will provide the best weapon damage bonus.

I'll also probably be getting rid of the precise trait on my weapons and replacing it with sharpened for the extra armor penetration.

This. Either I'm increasing weapon speed or I'm going to go for the armor penetration. Precise isn't dead per se, but it's now tertiary to other factors.

As a sorcerer martial 5p might even be worth looking at for some super high fragment procs.

With the nerfs on reg 5p willows might still be worth looking at. Aether seems pretty lackluster though - would drop that.

On a sidenote: Has anyone tested what contributes for more dmg 1setbonus magica or spelldmg on different casts?

The one piece of v 14 I have is divine trait. I can't speak for all of the pieces tho. I think crit might still be useful, for a few niche builds but that will be about it. mainly seeing night mother and lowering a bosses armor if they did up the damage mitigation on bosses.

For stamina I am looking at way of air for three pieces (stam regen / stam regen). Sadly most of the good stamina medium armor was crit based. Also if you are looking for heavy armor healer taking a loot at lord might be good now (magic regen / spell power / magic regen).

Droping crit gear doesn't mean youll have less crit either. Everyone was given 10% base crit in 1.6.

Has the weighted trait been changed at all? They got rid of all other haste effects in the game with 1.6. So I assume something has been changed for the trait as well. Would be nice if weighted increased weapon and spell damage instead.

After seeing those crits nerfed on sets, I have decided to switch to stacking spell damage rather than spell crit. If you've seen the champion trees, you'll notice that The Apprentice line can give you a spell crit of 12% for having at least 30 points in that tree (The Ritual will have 12% weapon crit). I figured I'd get my crit from that and inner light and use gear for spell damage.

I'm still testing out set combinations on the PTS; so far, I'm liking 4 magnus+2 torug's pact and full warlocks on my full magicka templar. I can get around 1600ish spell damage with that setup (nearly 2000 when using entropy). No idea if that's an ideal set though; as I've said, I'm still testing out certain combinations to find what will be best coming 1.6.

Also due to the changes to stats here my light armour magicka sorc will need to focus far more on surviving and less on damage.Xx3QuZq.jpg?18PCv3Lk.jpg?1Once my build can survive a swarm of wasps I can look to increase my damage output. :p Therefore I might even be adding the Defending trait to to gear.

PTS is down and I'm an NA player so I can't post a pic, but yeah weighted still effected attack speed last I looked.

That bonus is still normal and provides the most DPS, I tried sharpened and the increase per attack wasn't that great, I ended up getting more for crit. With the penchant for people to use shields now, penetration will server you less than raw damage to burn down shields.

Lets say you have 3 Sets, each giving 8% crit (4% twice, each set), total of 24%.

    Pre-1.6: 0% base crit + 24% from gear = 24% before skills/pots/etc.

Post 1.6: 10% base crit+ 12% from gear = 22% before skills/pots/etc. plus a new system exists that didnt before (Champion) which can add around 9% from the initial 70 CPs you get from 1.6 before you actually earn any. Potential is therefore 31% + skills/pots/etc.

    24% vs 31%

    How was crit nerfed again?

Can't crit shields though, so you're getting no damage increase with precise in those situations.

Agree. I feel crit was actually buffed since Impen was changed.

Crit from gear is not that great which means its better to go for other stats that will increase damage more. But the addition of base crit and removal of impen more then makes up for it. I feel crit is actually to easy to obtain and wish it was reduced even more.

They do need to change the no crit though damage shield though. That seems like it was never intended to begin with.
