Registering a code also comes with 30 days of game time.
The most optimal way would be to activate your account of February 17th (1 month prior). Once the game goes to ESO:TU then you'll have an immediate 600 crowns to spend, instead of waiting until March 17th and starting with zero
Wouldnt that mean if your free 30days extend past March 17th you would get +1500+500?FAQ wrote:2) As a current subscriber: If you are an active subscriber when The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited launches, you will receive 500 crowns for having a game account, plus 100 crowns for each 30-day period you have been an active subscriber. In addition, you'll be automatically enrolled in ESO Plus for the remainder of your subscription period. You'll receive the full benefits of membership, and 1500 crowns for each 30-day period remaining on your subscription. For example, if you have 30 days or less remaining, you will receive 1500 crowns. If you have between 30 and 60 days remaining, you will receive 3000 crowns. 60 to 90 days, 4500 crowns.

Right now you need to set up a subscription plan, even if you intend to cancel it before the free 30 days are up. After it, you won't. Either way you'll get 500 crowns on the 17th for buying the box.heroofnoneb14_ESO wrote: »If someone purchases the game today and registers between Now and March, do they still need to sign up for 2 months subscription before they can play? Yeah, you will. Technically you currently need to set up a payment system when you buy the box. You can turn around and cancel it immediately if you want, though.
If you set it up today, and your subscription would run out on March 24th, you'd get 1500 crowns, and a week of Plus membership after the transition. I think you'd also get 100 crowns for February, though I'm not 100% certain there.heroofnoneb14_ESO wrote: »If they purchase the game now but register in March, will they be getting their free month in the form of a plus membership?
No, Plus membership will go away. You'll get 500 crowns for buying the box (apparently), but, that's it.

There is no free Plus membership with game purchase. thanks for taking the time to follow up with this. So does this mean that after March 17th when B2P goes live, that anyone registering a new copy of ESO will not get a free month of + membership? I guess I can understand part of the reasoning, that technically the "one month of free membership" is delivered then since the game is B2P, but that doesn't make the game that appealing to new folks looking to get into the game. Wonder if they would forgo the 2 month required subscription fee if a new player subbed up by Feb 15th (30 days prior)
any ZOS reps care to clarify?

I asked the question similar to this and they answered it in the 1/30/2015 ESO Live episode 10.
They said that if you buy the game now and use the code, it will change it to the ESO: Unlimited Version come march 17th.
They also said that if you but the old codes and you use the code lets say on July 4th, it will STILL WORK after the ESO: Unlimited launch.
So if you buy the game now, think as if you are buying the ESO: Unlimited.
However, you might want to wait until FEB 17th and use the 30 days free month to ride all the way into ESO: Unlimited free.
Using the 30 day free trial WILL NOT get you ESO+. Unless you paid a sub fee.
heroofnoneb14_ESO wrote: »After review of this, I still don't see much reason for folks to register a game until after March 17th, when B2P comes live.
Buying ESO and registering today:
1. Buy a copy of ESO new for around 25 dollars (20-30 dollars is a standard price mark I recommend)
2. Subscribe today (1/25/2014) with 1 month free but you still need to subscribe for 60 days for about 30 dollars (assume 15 a month sub fee)
3. Buy to play hits March 17th and you get 500 crowns for buying the game, have about 39 days left on subscription, and with the first 30 days not counting since you weren't subscribed, then you'd probably be looking at them rounding up the remaining 21 days to be a month of time spent (100 crowns) and then 30 days as a plus member (1500 crowns).
Essentially you'd be getting 2100 crowns, 39 days of enhanced leveling, and DLC access for around 55 dollars
If you instead hold onto that 25 dollar copy:
1. 500 crowns for registering the game on March 17th
2. You choose to sign up for plus for 2 months, for about 30 bucks
In this case you'd be getting 3000 crowns, 60 days of enhanced leveling, and DLC access for around 55 dollars
While I'm more than happy to promote the game and let people know how to get it, I can't recommend people sign up for a subscription right now until March, if these figures are true.

This change from more or less forced sub system to a dual system with A ) player that will not pay anything more then for access to an account and the game client, those that play and pay as before on regular base now in ESO+ costumers (sub) C) the rest of play who will only pay for in game content (DLC) and that way make purchase in a non regular manner (at least compared for what ESO+ player will have access to through their payment and subscribing).
Something that might happen now from February until March is that it could be a higher demand (at least for the short time before and after the 17th of March) as this game had a lot of attention lately in all kind of media and on (gaming/tech)forums/social media that this game will now be going to be "free" to play, which might make it more expensive to get any copy of this game through normal channels as they will charge more for this game.
In short: your example above lack to take into account possible change in price for initial purchase of this game which might make it better to buy it today and even play (or at register it) to use those 30 free days before the game will change to the new payment system in the 17th March. After that date it will be less worth to have bought the "old" version with these 30 days of free play as it will not give you any more content and now these people that join will also have access for "free" to this game. You will get some Crowns, yes, but the power of purchase in Crowns will be depending on how the internal economy in this game will be balancing a rush of new and old people to these stores for more in-game content in form of DLCs or other stuff that might be available to buy for these Crowns.
It isn't a gamble, people have been doing it since day 1, it works. Even if you don't cancel, you will not be charged until your free 30 days are up (except the authorization hold, of course).heroofnoneb14_ESO wrote: »UPDATE: some folks have been able to register, set themselves up with a subscription, and then immediately cancel it. Day 1 they didn't charge me immediately, but the authorization hold was equivalent to sub price (thank Talos they changed it). Day 31 they double charged me on a 6 month sub. And that's how I learned to use time cards instead.heroofnoneb14_ESO wrote: »It isn't a gamble, people have been doing it since day 1, it works. If you did it day one you'd still remember they made mistakes charging folks immediately and multiple times. Folks also make mistakes and forget to confirm the cancelation. So yes, low risk, but for those that don't want to give credit info out, wait till March.

But it works now. I wouldn't wait till March simply because I'd be wasting 30 days of free game time. Not a big deal, but if I already have them, why not use them?
When we were still dealing with all those billing issues, Customer Support started manually activating people's accounts, without needing to link a credit card. Maybe it's still possible. Not disagreeing that it would be better to use your free 30 days now and get a head start, but still can't endorse it while you have to give out credit card info and do subscription canceling.
But I can absolutely see why folks are willing to sign up now rather than wait.

Most MMO players predicted this about two months into the actual release of the game. I know I personally knew it was going to go F2P, which pisses me off after spending $80 on an early release, after participating in BETA testing, and paying for a sub for months. Your reward for getting put over the barrel, some low end tokens for money wasted. They should take your purchase price of whatever your original purchase was, how much you wasted in P2P subs, and then multiply that buy how many months you wasted on this poorly designed, non-friendly MMO. It has been nothing but busted since day one, the UI was always geared to consoles, and they rode off the backs of P2P players to continue financing their console design. This was obviously going nowhere which is why it kept getting pushed back. Now they have gathered enough capital off of the P2P people, they are just going to bend them over after exploiting them for their original design model, Console and not PC. What a joke they are, and I am I glad I quit after realizing they had no intention of fixing their issues and were just pushing to pursue console versions. Oh and making you pay to reactivate, you are getting nothing free, your prepaying for these token crowns, and the ones that continued to ride this stupidity out you have paid ten fold for 500 token pieces.heroofnoneb14_ESO wrote: »Morning,
