Value of Subscription vs. Micro transactions.

I am a single player, TES fan. I have been a player since Beta and am currently subbing. What I want to know is the value of my subscription. I don't think I am willing to pay $14/mth for a little extra XP and $2 worth of crowns. I am/was willing to pay that much only because it kept out the rabble I find in f2p and b2p games. If ZOS produces 2-3 DLC per yr at a cost of $15 each, purchasing the DLC each time would be more valuable to me, but if a 6mth sub is $7/mth with the $2 crowns, paying total of $5/mth for extra XP might be worth it. Or, if the 6 mth sub was 12/mth, but the value of 1500 crowns is $6, that also might be worth subbing.

TL/DR: The value in subbing is going to be impacted by the value of 1500 crowns.

Very much so. At max level I won't feel the need to have the extra XP for champion points (if it even effects them) and my traits will be researched, and my crafter is already max everything. The cost of DLC and what 1500 crowns are worth are what we need to see before we can figure out what is best. Fortunately they did mention the crown shop would be viewable on 1.6 PTS so we can see what crowns are worth. (Hopefully Monday)

in DCUO the sub was only worth it for a few months, or you where really behind in DLC and was cheaper to sub for all content vs single buy DLC.

id say it will be the same here. when more and more DLC is out and you havnt played in a while the sub will be a better option for example.

DCUO is probably the best example of the hybrid model I can think of. I bought the life time sub to DCUO and havent regretted it since. The game ia still a lot of fun, the shop doesn't impact me one bit. I do like the content but its geared towards pvp endgame and thats when i stopped playing it.

Please point to a popular sub game that effectively keeps out the rabble? It seems they all still suffer from trolls, toxic behavior, spammers and immature people. They were/ still are in ESO even with the sub fee.

Full on f2p is an open door, so yes just be sheer numbers there will be more rabble.

But let's not pretend that $15 a month is some sort of bastion community. Subscription fees in that sense are more of a placebo, than anything.

Seeing as I don't MMO, and I have tried Rift, and GW1, ESO definitely had less spamming and Botting (after a few tweaks) then the others. that is all I can go by.

It seems to me from this point on subbing continuously will be less cost effective for the long run. Since they are slowing the update speed for content like 1.6, I think subs will only be a deal if you come back after not playing for a while. But we'll have to wait and see.

You do realize they want you to sub AND buy crowns for extra cash, right? Not just to rely on sub alone so they will make certain your sub falls a wee bit short, like every other cash shop game.

Yes, Rift is free to download/ install, that is the biggest source of gold seller/ bot spam. But having to pay ~$60 upfront will keep that out... as long as they keep a higher price on the box.

Sounds like you MMO a little bit.

And how long do you think B2P will last once that console copies sales dry up?

I don't know. Do you have the answer?

It's b2p for now, that's all I know. I will (probably) enjoy the game until f2p comes around, whether it is a year or 3 years from now. I will stay off the cynical slippery slope for now.

Dcuo is quite successful on the psn. I forgot the total # of users, ~18mil maybe. Anyway its the largest growing user base on psn for both ps3 & ps4. It also happens to be the most profitable and it is not pay to win. There is a tried and true business model there, just imagine how much that game could make if they were allowed to be on the xbox live network?.
