Every so often they migrate/update existing characters from the live server to the PTS. They mentioned previously doing this when 1.6 goes up on the PTS. If you like you can choose instead to create a new character using a template, which is usually high or max level and tends to comes with boxes full of gold gear and the best potions, etc, in the game.

✭✭✭The PTS process usually runs 3-4 weeks. EU server characters are currently on the PTS so players on the NA server will need to create new ones. At some point down the road while 1.6 is on the PTS, characters from the NA server will be copied. As for when that happens, look for an update next week.0 -

Hope they make them refundable like skill points in case you change your mind.

And i suppose any progress made on PTS will not be copied back to the main server. So not really worth doing much on the PTS then, except checking whats coming.

The point is to catch the broken stuff before it goes live, so yes, it's worth doing. It's primary function isn't to act as your preview but rather to keep potentially game impacting bugs from affecting the characters you care about.1
