Question for Matt Firor

How do you justify your statements in saying the game would retain the subscription so that sacrifices would not have to be made now? What credence does Zenimax have with the pay model change?

Come on, man. $$$ is your answer, ESO wasn't meeting a set financial quota and ZoS had to rework their agenda. Matt Firor, Paul Sage, and any other dev there have people that hold them accountable.

He has investors who decided he wasn't doing a good enough job... so, they changed course... and anyone who thinks this is recent is delusional; you don't change this much in a couple of months.

That said, he's the president of the company... that's pretty damned embarrassing.

I have a better question for Matt Firor:
what will you lie about next? What arrogant and insulting statement will you release to try to explain away the obvious failure of your mediocre realm vs realm end game? And finally:
would you lime to say more about how important it is to make your game first and an Elder scrolls game second?

Paul Sage meant well. I believe he really didn't know.
Still, as a paid game with a subscription, any attempt to add gear to a cash shop is going to be met with a healthy dose of skepticism. Perhaps Sage simply misspoke. If he didn't, he and ZOS will need a spectacular PR job to convince players that selling gear, even older gear, for real money isn't the end of the world

ZOS is not lied to us about that the game will be on a subscription system. Just after March 17, the system will be changed (filed in a different wrapper) to continue the life of the project

How are you paying for this?

ZeniMax Media recently announced a $300 million investment from Providence Equity Partners, and of course the massive success of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Fallout 3 only adds to the assets that helped fund ZeniMax Online. Suffice it to say, we're covered.

I'm not paying for a Zenimax/Bethesda/Arkane game ever again, that's for sure.

Read some of the other threads. Game publishers are using the same financial model as the movie industry. Initial release costs more to first wave of users, theaters or new game. Once that well runs dry, movies go to premium cable or vendors like Netflix, Redbox, Amazon. That's us now going B2P. Later movies appear on cable channel and/or broadcast TV. Games go F2P with low/no cost but with cash store. We play games for fun, but games are made to make money. It's all part of the entertainment industry, just like sports, TV, books, etc. We may not be happy about this change, but it's just a business decision. No surprise when they were silent over the last few weeks. They were probably surprised though that we caught them in their 6 month sub subterfuge.
