A tad more freedom?

I'm curious to see if later down the road, if Zenimax plans on giving there players more freedom for exploration? I really dislike feeling confined as im sure a majority of people do.
For instance, there is a small peninsula north west of Ebonheart. I was on the eastern side of the small body of water and i needed to get directly to the other side. Instead of running all the way around, i decided to swim. At first i was quit happy that i was able to do this but by about half way across the peninsula, i was attacked and killed by piranhas.
I really don't understand the reasoning behind this. I am no where near the edge of the map and was well within the playable area it seemed.

Congratulations on getting your "killed by slaughterfish" achievement! (seriously - check your achievements) :)

For various reasons, some bodies of waters are "protected" by these nasties -usually to force you to take another way to get there. Best thing to do is the instant you get attacked do a 180 and you will probably survive.
