Is a latency from 100 to 133ms too high to play ESO?

I had to switch to AT&T U-verse because Comcast hasn't fixed the problem were my modem was cutting out every hour for the last month. I had my lines checked like 8 times, and the modem replaced 3 times. The Comcast technician told me there was a problem with a module on the pole, but he wasn't allowed to fix it because it was a maintenance function. After waiting a month ( calling the Comcast tech support every 3 days for a month), I just couldn't take it any more, so I switched to AT&T. Unfortunately, there are no other ISP's that service this area.

With Comcast my latency while playing ESO was always between 50 and 90 ms, but with AT&T my latency is always 100 ms or 133 ms. The game is jerky now, even though the frame rate stays between 50 and 60 fps.

I had to use Googles's DNS of 8.8.8.8 because AT&T's DNS server took 2 to 5 minutes to resolve a DNS address.

I have my router (Netgear R7000) plugged into the AT&T router because I use 802.11ac, and the AT&T router doesn't support this. My gaming computer is using a LAN line to connect to my router.

So is a latency of 100 to 133 ms normal, or are most of the you getting a latency much less than this?

The latency and frame displays can be enabled in the ESO options menu.

I usually get 95-120 with no noticeable lag. I have had up to 165 with no noticeable lag. The only time I had lag my ping was around 600 but that was because I was also streaming a movie on Netflix on my PS4 and downloading a game in the background.

100ms is about my norm - 50ms to the server farm, 50ms internal to the server (EU server) so as long is it is steady it should play ok.

As for DNS servers, I also have issue with my ISP's DNS servers, and regularly run 'DNSBench' from GRC (of Spinrite fame) to find the fastest DNS to me (My ISP is about 248 & 249 on the list of 250)

I run between 80-120 with no problems.

your going though a double NAT. This will add some latency.

You should disable the NAT in your uverse modem and set your AC router into the DMZ on the modem.

This will help out your latency.

Of course the better solution would be to run ethernet from the uverse box direct to your gaming computer and not use WIFI which is never 100% stable.

My gaming system runs over a LAN line, not WIFI. The WIFI is turned off on the AT&T router.

You may be correct about the double NAT, but I can't figure out how to disable the NAT on the AT&T router do you have any documentation on how to do this? My R7000 doesn't have an option to fully disable the NAT.

I didn't really want to connect my gaming computer directly to the AT&T router because I read that the firewall on it isn't the greatest, where as the firewall on the Netgear R7000 is rated as one of the best.

The other problem is that I have a NAS devices behind my Netgear router and wouldn't be able to access it it I connect my game computer directly to the AT&T router (unless I create several firewall rules); I will test this though and get back to everyone.

    Thanks for the tip.

Its not bad at all for mmos. Dont bring that ping to a shooter tho.

I figured out how to force the AT&T router to act like a bridge, using the suggestions from Elf_Boy and several Internet searches. My latency now between 83 and 100 ms, and the game is much smoother. The game still skips occasionally, but this is better than constant skipping of frames that I had previously.

I think the AT&T U-Verse just sucks big time. I'm paying $25 per month more for less speed. I hated to change to AT&T, but Comcast just couldn't or didn't care about keeping my Internet connection stable.

    Thanks again for the tips.

I envy you. I run between 300-500(red) normally, rarely below 300(white). But I am still satisfied and feel very lucky, because I would get 600+ latency if I do not use my current network booster.

BTW, I connect NA from China.
