Things ZOS can do to reduce lag/disconnects in PvP
I'm sure that most players who play PvP right now are very frustrated with the amount of disconnects, the amount of latency and the FPS drops. It really does ruin the otherwise awesome PvP experience we have in ESO, and here is a list of some things I think ZOS could do to improve server stability in PvP:
- Reduce the population cap. Currently the population cap is around 2000 for all 3 factions, or 667 v 667 v 667. The amount of players clumped into one area plays a big factor in latency, and a reduction from 2000 to 1200 would really help, which would be about 400 v 400 v 400. There's less players crammed into the map and this should reduce latency, and you're still able to find large-scale battles. Also this would get more players into more campaigns
- Please for the love of God, remove collision detection from guards! The amount of players rushing in and running into keep guards puts alot of strain on the server since it has to handle all those calculations.
- Introduce a small-scale PvP area like Colovian Crossing for those that want it. Don't fear about AvA becoming empty if you introduce small-scale PvP. Look at Guild Wars 2, it has both small-scale PvP maps and a large-scale, 100+ player map that involves keep sieges, just like ESO, and that map still has tons of players in it even though there's small-scale PvP. Lots of PvP players came to ESO for its PvP, so why would they just go and abandon what they came for?
- Discourage zerging as much as possible. There's nothing ZOS can really do to stop it altogether, and quite frankly zergs can be epic, but ZOS should be discouraging it. They're doing this partially with the balance pass coming in Update 6, with a new ability called Magicka Bomb that basically turns your character into a suicide bomber. Once you activate it you can jump head-first into a big zerg and blast it apart.
That's my list of what I think ZOS can do, does anyone else have anything ZOS can do to improve the PvP experience?
