Quick Soul Magic Question

Hi all

I have noticed of late that the Soul Trap passive in the World skill line doesn't seem to be working for me anymore, it gives % chance to fill a soul gem when you kill something. I'm not sure but it seemed to me that the wording on the tool tip has changed, it now says "weapon kills", though I can't actually remember how exactly it was worded originally.

Does this mean the passive won't trigger if you are using skills to kill NPCs, as opposed to weapon based attacks? I have played for several hours with 12 empty gems, and they are all still empty, just wondered if anyone else has come across this?

Cheers

If you are using "skills" then no, it won't work. You do actually have to kill using a weapon, (staff, sword, bow, etc). You also need to ensure that you have the correct size of soul gem in your inventory to match the enemy level you are killing otherwise it will tell you that you don't have a soul gem large enough.
Far too many characters to list any more.

Ah right, I thought that was the case, although I am sure it hasn't always been that way has it? Or maybe I am just mis-remembering. So if I actually use the Soul Trap skill during a fight, does the enemy still have to be killed solely with a weapon, or does this just apply to the passive? Sorry to sound dense, I just don't remember it always being this way. :)
No if you use the soul trap spell the enemy only have to die before it times out.

The passive require weapon damage is a way to give an low chance to fill gems during play so you don't run out so easy.

And so you don't have to have soul trap on your bar, I find that with the passive I get a decent number of soul gem fills, and I can put another skill in my bar.

But for the OP, yeah as Nebthet said, you have to kill with the weapon not an ability.
