Before anyone starts, this isn't a rant, so much as a simple conveyance of what I've noticed over the months I've been playing and an attempt to ascertain whether or not this same thing happens to anyone else.
Zenimax really wants me to wear the Darkstride dropped set.
While I was running my main through the Cyrodiil delves I pulled lots of VR5 gear and having a Templar in low VR I was thrilled the 4 or 5 times I pulled Syrabane items, though only two of them weren't duplicates, I could probably find a use for them on another caster. Funny thing though, by the time I finished the week or two I was running these delves I had 4 full 5-piece Darkstride sets.
Now as I've played I've noticed what seems almost like a mechanic designed to whet a player's whistle and foster trade - usually, set items drops will be two of a kind and then generic junk for a time, followed by a couple of pieces of a different set. That's cool, get to see some variety and find stuff for alts while playing regulary.
Today though, RNG has been toying with my emotions something awful.
The first Dwemer dungeon I hit today dropped a motif page two urns in - staves - again, whatever I'll sell it, make some quick gold I guess. Not 15 minutes later my excitement has peaked as I've pull two collectibles I've been hunting: the Scorpions Stinger and Daedroth's Eye. Generic junk again for a time before a Darkstride bracer dropped - oh sweet another full set to sit in a store for 30 days - about an hour later and I've pulled 4 Darkstride pieces. Which would be great; if player races included spiders, then all 4 sets of Bracers would sell quickly.
That's when I figured it was time for a break and headed back to Evermore to drop the second Dwemer page I found today in the bank for my crafter, one I didn't have, so... yay, and hit up the treasure map locations I had along the way. I pulled two Dreugh King Slayer items (another set that vexes me with its abundance) both cuirasses.
So here I am, taking a break, sharing this little slice of eye-twitching madness; I hope you've enjoyed.
