Please give me a reason to PvP....

I don't understand how PvP works in this game. It seems like all of the campaigns are dominated by ONE faction or the other. I'll make a new campaign my home and teleport into Cyrodiil and surprise surprise, either my faction STEAMROLLED every thing on the map, or an opposing faction DESTROYED any chance of recovery.

What the hell is the point of this?

I mean look.

Haderus

AD 17k
EP 196
DC 105

What am I missing. Is this "fun?"

I KNEW this would be the case the VERY moment they announced how PvP would work in this game. A giant zergfest much like what happened to warhammer online.

Seriously - where is the fun in PvP, is it regarded as a joke? How do I even participate, no one is ever in the damn zone??

Don't quite know which shard your on, but where I come from, the campaign is dominated by one faction during the day, reclaimed by another during the night, and early morning to midday is usually rife with conflict unless one side mobilized strategically.

The key factor is usually the influx of populations on each side....

LOL yesterday's we have standoff with AD while they are coming for our scroll... it was like 100 vs 150 . that was epic

maybe PVP in MMO just isn't for you, everquest tried 14 years and the player class never got balanced ..this is MMO, maybe you should pvp in diablo 3 or something if you like small fast paced combat, lol

In the current state of PvP 3 of the campaigns are being used as "buff" campaigns, where one alliance dominates the who map constantly to keep the buffs from having enemy keeps and the scrolls. The reason for this is because the buffs work outside of the pvp zone along with it other pvp zones (the latter being changed in update 5).

Unfortunately this means if you want to actually do pvp you need to join one of the two campaigns that are actually used. On the NA mega-server that would be the non-vet campaign "Blackwater Blade" and the 30 day campaign "Thornblade".

PVP is f-d up seriously bad, from both player and development sides. Just fair warning.

    Thornblade. On the NA side.
It has the potential to be stagnant for many hours during the day (save for when the other side decides to randomly add pressure) but it is during the early and late hours where a decent amount of conflicts arise. I remember waking up one morning to find out that the DCs took up at least one forth of the map from the formerly dominating AD.

But again, it is relatively boring unless you know when to pop in.

PvP is a very bad joke.

The key devs came from DAoC and tried to recreate that environment with ESO as DAoC II.

    It doesn't work.

For that matter, DAoC didn't really work either, although skewed memories of the game are inherently biased by those who were on the winning side of things.

PvP where players are 1-shot, 2-shot, or 3-shot by opponents they may never see and thus cannot react to IS NEVER GOOD PvP... but that's what we got.

Firor and company screwed up. Period.

I like playing on Haderus. Thornblade has more consistent action, and a higher population, but it also has tremendous amounts of lag, constant trolling, and insane server crashing zergs. Haderus is slow and usually dominated by AD, but there seems to be a solid force of EP that are able to challenge us daily. Not all day of course, but at prime time. DC also makes appearances occasionally, and those days are pretty exciting. Again, only for a few hours of the day, but it's worth it to not be on Thorn.

Also, the people seem a lot nicer. Not just my allies, but my opponents as well. There are always jerks, but a lower population and less intense competition means fewer of them. I think this will hold true even if the population increases since the campaign is so short. It's easier to let go of losses when you know you have the potential to be on top in just one week.

I have heard rumblings that more people may be coming, and the activity level could rise. I'm hopeful.

So far as your level, I'd wait until V7 or so, unless you want to play on the non vet server. If you're lower level, or have low HP you become a target for just about everyone, and will likely be sought after as a relatively easy kill. This is not true for everyone, though. I've seen a few non vet players really kick ass in PvP.

My reason for not PVPing much anymore is simply....that I realized there is no point.

I'm not getting emperor, I have a family and a full time job.
No need to work for PVP gear its not really any better than dropped or crafted gear its just "different". Trust me...that 5% less damage from players isn't saving you.

    They need better objectives.
ZERG mentality is boring and is only fun for so long.
They need more small scale pvp.
    They need better rewards.
Class balance is horrific. My sorc dies constantly, my DK takes on whole gank squads.

To add to that every one of the active Alliance War skills and ultimates is useful in some end game group PVE situation.

By rank 6 u can use all the alliance war skills. No real need to PvP after that. Unless you have no job IRL and can go for emperor.

This is why I always play on Thornblade, its how pvp is supposed to play. One faction will get hit by two others, then the two factions will start fighting each other while letting the faction that was just hit by the two recover and then they go after one faction which creates the cycle again.

Also if you don't like to siege you can run around seeing its always very populated and the chances of you finding someone in the wild will be a lot higher, I usually come across someone and its a very fun 1v1 because they usually don't have the copy and paste build which makes it a lot more fun.

lmao Thorneblade OP. after 30 days 1k point separation. Pretty frickin amazing how balanced the factions are.

All the other campaigns are there just for people who have alts on other factions. If those campaigns were not there they would not be able to pvp on their alts.

Oh and ESO has the best (non-sandbox) pvp on the market. Look what it did to GW2 WvW population. It's a ghost town over there because of Cyrodiil.

Actually it's rank 12 for Clatrops and Barrier. Not that much but not that little either especially if you have more than 1 character. It can be enough to get you hooked though.

It is alliance war assault or support level 6 which you get at PVP rank 12. Each Alliance War skill level takes a couple of ranks.

Except for the later ones which require three skill levels. You reach Assault and Support Rank 10 when you reach Alliance War Rank 24.
