So there I was grinding an area not bothering anyone and no one was bothering me. When someone decides he is the gaming god and that I'm not grinding the way he wants me to grind. Being kind of taken aback I say to him lets group which he ignores but when I kill a NPC he calls me a [snip]. I say to him to keep his comments to himself or I'll report him but noooo this jerk can't help himself and continues to harass me.

This is one of the main reasons why I stayed away from MMOs, you always have jerks who anoint themselves the gaming gods, can't keep their comments to themselves and are internet tough guys. Rant complete >:) .

Were you grinding on mobs he may have needed for a quest? If so, it's quite possible that you were being the inconsiderate one (though that would hardly excuse his after-the-fact behavior, even if true).

Report the player in game, making note in the report the colorful language this player used and your offense to having been harassed.

Yes because there are plenty of MMO's with people who are complete jerks and call people names. And just because those MMO's have it doesn't mean this one needs it.

Do they take grind group drama reports very seriously? I'm. Currently on a cliff above a popular one not in the group dropping healing springs about every tens seconds. I don't need to be in the group to get what I want and I'm sure as hell not jumping on and off a rock if I don't have to.

It's not you, it's him. Thankfully, this game has very few of these people.

After decades of Internet experience (I've been online since the mid-eighties), my advice is to just filter out these people, either mentally or through the /ignore feature. They will never "learn to behave", because most of them know perfectly well how to be nice, they just actively choose not to. There is no more reason to take personal offense from this kind of behavior than when an angry drunk calls random people names in the park when not mumbling to himself.

OP this is what I don't get - you mention that these type of people are the reason why you stayed away from MMOs. I get that but I need to ask you a question:

Why let these people influence you like that?

I mean I get that you may not want to deal with this. No one really does. But, I'm not sure why you'd allow these type of people control what you do. So the person said "bad" things. So? And I see this a lot. Why let complete strangers on the internet affect you so much?

I could have written this very same post. This weekend I was at my favorite grind spot running my pattern. I had moved several skills from mid 40's to 50, looted about 400/500 items for decon/selling and gathered about 8000 gold in a couple of hours. He asks me to group and then proceeds to cuss me out because I am not doing it his way.

I bet it was the same person.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

    I hate that crap.

My favorite is when you run through an area for a quest that people happen to be grinding in and they proceed to stand stock still the second they notice that you killed some of "their" mobs and you just know you're going to get an ear full when they start moving again.

This is why I much prefer grinding public dungeons where there are no "Kill X number of enemy" quests. So, no excuses for people getting mad about someone "stealing" their kills.

they would definitely be in the minority.

oh brings to mind a healer my group had in tempest a few nights back. not that he was abusive. but he was in the LFG qeue with me for nearly 2 hours. then once we get a tank and head in things are going fairly smoothly. now the tank may have been "noob" at tanking with a 2Hander but said healer decided this was too much work for him after 1 boss. healers may sympathize here but the following facts speak for themselves. more out of "meh" our little 3man group of 2 DKs and a Sorc continued on through the instance. nothing but blood wells for heals. sure we died a few times on the bosses but we still managed to tromp all the bosses with a bit of team work, aggro juggling and self preservation.
it was indeed some good fun.

the point i made to this healer was that bailing on a group for assuming you know better is WEAK. because theres no tellin how a run will go from start to finish. to presume and decide you are too good for even the slightest challenge is a very "WoW" attitude. for shame!
and the truth is in the achievement...
some players have delusions of grandeur, ("have better things to do")
other players just get it done.

And implicitly approve of his behavior thereby reinforcing it? Social pressure and consequences of one's actions keep society working. Not so in the consequence-less internet unless we decide to act.

*Puts on grumpy old lady sweater* THIS is why the world is goin' to hell in a handbasket sonny! The fact that people actually behave on the internet in ways they would never dare in real life and that we are expected to just let them get away with it without censure is absolutely ridiculous. I would screenshot everything he said and add it to my report of the wretched little monster. Seriously people, MANNERS!
