Apologies to that guy on the bridge in Coldharbour

Pallmor

So I'm playing in the Village of the Lost public dungeon in Coldharbour last night for the first time. I spot this other guy at the entrance and we head across the first "bridge." We're doing okay at first. But somehow he falls behind and I, being the cocky Nord I am, head right into aggroing a pile of about 10-15 enemies all at once (because I'm smart that way).

Now, there is unfortunately no key you can push in the game that macros a "Fall to knees, beg for my life, cry, offer sexual favors in exchange for mercy" sequence. So I instead do what any brave Nord would do, and turn around and run like hell. As I run back across the bridge, I see the guy who fell behind standing there. He's probably wondering why I'm running so fast (if we had had Teamspeak, he could have also heard me screaming like a young girl). But he is about to find out, as roughly half of Molag Bal's army is right behind me.

So anyway, I decide to take my chances, and jump off the bridge into the water below. I lose most of my few remaining HP. But I survive. And the mob that was following me couldn't follow me into the water. I count that as a victory. It's not one of those really *great* victories, mind you. But it's good enough that I can embellish it later at the pub.

So all is well until I look back up at the bridge and realize that the huge mob that was following me has now aggroed on my poor compatriot on the bridge. I guess it didn't occur to him to jump into the water too right behind me, because he's not a brave adventurer like me. And a few seconds after looking up, I see that plus-sign thingy pop up over him (that's a good thing right?).

Anyway, I guess the point of the story is to never be afraid to take a leap of faith, particularly when the alternative is being horribly killed. And also, if you see someone else take a leap of faith, maybe you should follow--especially when they're being chased by a huge angry mob.

Ah, trains. How I miss thee. Should have yelled "train to bridge inc!" to make that epic moment truly perfect.

Thanks, that was me. Now that I know who you are, I can hunt you down and seek retribution. May not be tonight, may not be tommorrow, but it's coming....

Hehe --- reminding me of the first time I played GW2 and had this happen. I went into a cave and saw someone running out with what appeared to be roughly 50 mobs behind him. I had no clue, having come to that game from LotrO where mobs just reset and do not do this..., that I was about to be annihalated since they all shifted their focus onto the noob in doorway: me.

The fun thing about this stuff is that yes, some bizzarre things can happen... but it also means a LOT of griefing happening as well. Mobs here in ESO are somewhere in between it seems, as they do eventually reset and go back to whence they came, even if someone is around to pounce on.

The one here that gets me is when I am duoing and my friend is so far away from me that his health bar is grayed-out on screen, yet all of a sudden a bunch of mobs from out of nowehere come hunt me down, lol. I will ask him in TS wtf dude?! He just laughs while I kill off what he did not, hehe.

What is weird is I have had kite trains run past me chasing someone, then run past me to their home position again and never aggro on me.

Pallmor, thanks for bringing back fond memories and count yourself as one of the lucky ones. I did the same thing my first time in the Village though there was no unlucky bystander (that I saw anyway). But I was eaten by piranhas when I jumped off the bridge and tried to swim away. So I died anyway.

I think generally, if you leave them alone, they'll leave you alone. Mobs tunnel vision pretty hard when they're being kited.

    LOL. love it. :joy:

while we're calling out other players, I'd like to thank the random one who spontaneously started trade with me, gave me 14 soul gems and told me "just take 'em, I can't use them anymore". never in my life have I been shown such kindness... :sob::heart:

It probably didn't help that he attacked them, figuring he would help me out. I guess he didn't notice that I was preparing to bravely leap from the bridge.

What always gets me is say I'm running from place to place. Along the way I pick up a couple mobs and growing. After a while say I get dehorsed or for whatever reason decide to turn and fight. Then as soon as I attack they turn and run back to where they came from. Even trying to hit them while they're running just does nothing.

I've even had.. say a mage mob tailing me. I turn and look at it to see if it's going to run back. it just stands there attacking and casting away doing damage. then I go to attack it and zip it runs off.

I get it's a mechanic to keep you from running past, but if you attack them and engage in the fight, they should stay and fight, or at least be able to attack/stop them while they're running back like they were doing to you.
And so did many brave men, women, and beast fall to the end of Beta, never to be heard from again. All that is left, is whispers of the adventures they had.

My first train experience went a little bit like this:

    RandomGuyA: "train to zone!"
    Me: "choo-choo?!"
    RandomGuyB: "No! SHOO! SHOO!"
    Me: "what?"
    RandomGuyA:"too late" (zones out)
    Me: *dead*

Brings back memories of Karnor's Castle back during Kunark days in Everquest.

"OMG YOU MORONS! TRAIN TO THE RIGHT! THE RIIIIGHT!!!"

    "Durrrr... this way?"

    "NO!!! *ALL DEAD*"

.... then the train just continues back and forth as more morons keep zoning in and aggroing them instead of waiting for the feigned monks to signal the all clear to their groups..

I was usually that monk! Quite fun just laying there watching the carnage and just sighing, thumping my tail, and waiting the half hour or so for things to settle down.

    Those were the days!

... Incidentally, WE NEED MONKS IN ESO! Specifically, Khajiit monks!

@Palmor , you, sir are a true Nord (save that part about running away like a little elvish schoolgirl, anyway.)

    However, I can explain this:

I suspect your compatriot had various things running through his mind.
    • Running, screaming Nord - not all that unusual.
    • Running, screaming, still-clothed Nord - a bit more unusual...
    • Running, screaming, still-clothed Nord chased by angry mob - less unusual.
    • Dying while your Mother's voice goes through you head:

"Just because a running, screaming, still-clothed Nord being chased by an angry mob jumps off a bridge, are you going to jump off too?"

      Priceless.

One of the best parts of playing an MMO is getting a laugh out of people running around a corner with a mob in tow. I'm sure your compatriot didn't mind too much. In his/her defense, jumping down into the water usually kills you

This reminds me of a fond beta story with my guildie Zetto about 9 months ago during the February beta weekend. (the one you could bring a friend)

We were in teamspeak together exploring Auridon for the first time (well id been playing beta for a while in pact lands, but for zetto it was brand new game, and for me a new area)

So we come to this area where our quest marker is down below us off of a cliff. We see water below so we figure its safe to jump.

Zetto goes first, jumps right off, and if you know the area west of Tanzelwil, those cliffs are EXTREMELY high. I jump too, and while im still in midair zetto yells NO RY DONT JUMP ITS SHALLOW.

Bam, both dead right next to each other on the beach, the beta cliff diving adventure.

Still laugh about it to this day.

I don't believe this. I've never had a train aggro on me unless I attacked them as they were running by. You can simply stand there and trains will return to their default spot if you don't take any action against them.
