Launch screen blacked out... can't see to type in username and password

Since the little hotfix patch on 9/17/14, I have been unable to get into the game. Upon running the ESO.exe file, my screen goes to fullscreen (when it should be windowed screen), I see the Bethesda and Zenimax logos (as per normal) but then, instead of seeing the username and password log ins, my screen goes black.

I hear the music on the log in screen and I can move my mouse cursor around but nothing happens when I click on the mouse. There's no interactivity on the screen, just a black screen. Nothing happens when I push Esc. The only way to leave is to do Ctrl-Alt-Delete.

I've run a repair from the launcher but I get the exact same problem when I run the game again. So, the hotfix patch on 9/17/14 did something horribly wrong and I'm locked out of the game. I have no idea what to do.

I'd rather not uninstall and re-install the game until I hear some advice from people who understand how computer programs work better than I do (which should be almost everybody).

So, advice please? What should I try?

Thanks in advance.

Try manually editing UserSettings file (located in Documents ---> Elder Scrolls Online ---> live).

And change the resolution and mode to what you want it to be.

UserSetting file is just an empty .txt file. I have no idea what to type in there.

    Really? That's odd.

Did a quick google for a usersettings.txt file for you to copy in there, adjust things till it works for you -

    UserSettings.txt

Thanks. I'll give it a shot but I got no idea what I'm messing around with.

Thanks Babylon. I copied and pasted a UserSettings.txt and it brought me straight to the log in page. Got in the game fine and just had to adjust the settings once I was in.

    I appreciate the help.

You solved this guy's problem within 15 minutes of his original post. Good on you. If I was Zenimax ... I'd hire you.
