Changing alliances, should this option be available at a certain point?

The devs should work on more important things.
    You already can.

It is called making a new character in the alliance you want it in.

    Within; Without.

Yes, through (1) and/or (2) but flagging the toon as a traitor at Cyrodill.

Yes and the player should also be able to have the title 'Faction Traitor'
(maybe even make that title mandatory)

    ;)
A title for the traitors and an achievement for those who manage to kill say, 50 of them.

Hmm, I don't think it the same thing, at least from the RP POV.

A new toon is brand new "person" without the previous experiences of a toon who fought for a given alliance.

I wouldn't mind, I made a character in DFC and she came out completely perfect. No way I could ever replicate the appearance. Would be nice if I could move her to Aldemeri cause I wanna roll a toon there and would like to use that one, but Im not holding my breath.

Yes. The devs do have more important things to work on but:
I would approve alliance switching if the following was in place.
    • Switching alliances should cost nothing and zero requirements (although some requirements might be necessary to make it work).
    • Either a 1 time permanent change (I'd prefer this) or change with a minimum 90 day cooldown.
The reason why I think this should be allowed is for social reasons. Many players stumble into this game with or without friends and find a group of like minded people but they are in a different alliance. People will say to just go level a character in that alliance but the leveling process is slow and many people have limited time to play.

    I am not sure.
I had to vote 'not sure' because I don't think that this should be a generally available option.

    but...

If ZOS offered a faction change specifically tailored to address the current faction imbalance affecting the PvP campaigns (that, basically, there are more folks from AD overall, so they can keep their campaign server pop maxed longer and mop up campaigns. Or at least it sure seems that way) I think that would be ok. But I should emphasize that it should be a really tightly controlled option aimed to restore PvP population balance, NOT a general 'any player can switch cuz they want to' kind of thing.

I don't really know. that would kind of mess up what's already in place. /tries desperately to not spoil anything for those who have not gotten that far

While I believe the alliance change should have some sort of cost - a quest or something like that - and not be easy and repeatable, I do understand some people might want to move a toon to another alliance because of friendship. I failed to foresee some people would feel like this. And yes, doing again all the grinding and questing you already did with another toon may not be fun.

Changing alliances would not be not just about RP, as I was thinking. The "good" reasons, I mean, because changing just to get those buffs from a winning alliance is not OK IMHO.
