Heavy armor/tanks not fitting in

I only posted this because I just posted on another discussion about tanks and it got me thinking. I only really enjoy playing heavy armor tank type characters and because these types of characters have the least amount of importance in this game I find it pushes me more towards playing solo content over group. Anyone else have this issue?

I'm a heavy armor wearing tank as well and a Nightblade on top of that. But I have a good guild, so I have no problems yet.

From what I have read so far tanks are only really needed in content after vet level 12 , I am not even close to that and wont be for a very long time. Not only that but I don't know if I would be good enough to play with groups at that level so this proposes issues for me.

You can play one and enjoy it, through most content, and especially through 1-50. Just don't expect to be that "uber" character or very popular later in the game or for particular tasks.

If you just do it for your own self though, all is good (although you will never match any "bathrobe & broomstick" build).

Me and my guild ran some dungeons last night. 1 DPS 1 Heal 2 heavy armored tanks. We did quite well. I think people just think all content is a DPS race and it kinda is. Haven't found any fights yet that reward you for taking time over just DPSing it in under 10 seconds

This. This is the problem in a nutshell. Heavy armor isn't bad, but it takes away a ton of your damage potential, so most people will automatically mark it off as useless. I've seen a number of heavy armor tanks who can make themselves nigh indestructible, but they're certainly not DPS powerhouses. I don't think heavy armor is the problem here, it's the expectations of the players. Not that I'd mind a buff, of course.

I'm a heavy wearing tank and the only one "specialising" in it in my guild. I'm not at Vet yet am having so much fun ploughing into mobs in dungeons first till they are all focused on me and then letting the DPS's have a field day unleashing all sorts of mayhem.
