Free 2 Play games are garbage

I keep hearing this game has a chance to go f2p but I hope not. That means less quality of work done to keep the game going and no standard of quality to anything.
Every f2p game I have tried has been a pile of garbage.

Alright. Opinions. So, where do you keep hearing this game "has a chance" of going f2p?

People keep saying its going F2P and that it sucks so bad its going to have to to save the game. But in every interview where the Devs where asked if it was going F2P they all said that they developed it for a sub based model and that's all.

Why are people so alarmist? Yeesh. Defining quality of a f2p game is subjective - people are looking for different things and what appeals to some players will be total crud for others.

For me, the best f2p game I have played - and still do now and then - is Rift, but I know lots of ppl think its crud.

A game I used to play for years went free to play and it went straight to the toilet, especially the community.

SO you just never know. As for this game, there have repeated many times they are keeping the sub model. If the sub does drop, I will still play ESO until I see the results of the change - most especially on the in game community, cause the one here on these forums is not really reflective of the ppl I have met in game.

In general, I agree. There are a few exceptions, but still, the f2p model can force someone to quit out of spite. (srsly, go suck on some skooma, ferghus)

I also just hate seeing ads and store buttons.

Warthunder and World of Tanks, despite their issues are both fine F2P games.

Rift is a game I miss a LOT sometimes. It like TESO was never meant to be F2P but I believe the developers of that game did an amazing job transitioning to the F2P without making it P2W.

I still pay it and that is why I cited Rift as a game that is successful in my book as f2p; when I said the above which you quoted, I was referring to another game - not Rift.

Excuse my ignorance, but how do f2p games support themselves?

Usually by selling things you could get in game for real money, like a horse. Some sell things only available throgh cash shops, like pets or playable races...hmmm.

Oh. Hmmm. And I saw someone talk about advertising? Do they have advertising in the games? Thanks.

    @Greatfellow
Some do. Some don't. More successful f2p games just advertise their cash shops, while the really desperate ones will go as far as advertising other games.

Warframe is F2P and its pretty *** amazing. but of course this is an opinion just like yours which means that it is subjective and holds little merit outside of the opinionee

Ambadassador - Dragon knight (v1) Naked with no future (returned from the naked realm to tank PvE)

I like your comment, especially your word "opinionee". That said, I would think if "opinionee" was a real word its definition would be " the person who receives an opinion, or to whom an opinion is directed."

Yeah, I think in your sentence above if you substitued "opiner" for "opinionee" you'd be spot on.

But I don't care. It was all fun for me. I'm a policy analyst who also gets paid to write and edit a lot, so I love running into words like "opinionee". Thanks!

The game could easily go F2P. They could charge for mounts, hirelings, newer motifs, dyes, respecs, appearance changes, or a host of other things.

Having said that, I hope it doesn't. I think the sub model will make a better game in the long run.

yeaah . with that you'll sure have the money to pay 2 megaserver and 300 employees that works for new contents and fixing bugs right? sub model it's always the best option, if you hope for new contents and work.

This seems sensible to me, although I don't have experience with f2p games. Just seems like it would be hard to keep a sophisticated game going without subscription fees.

When someone posts about stuff like that, check the date. That interview was three months old. Someone necro'ed the thread.

People have been saying the game was going to be free to play since before the game was even released. Its nothing new. My favorite post on the old forum, when it was on Bethesda's site, was a long, detailed almost rant on why the game was definitely going to be buy to play because GW2 was the greatest invention in the history of everything and ESO would fail miserably and instantly if it wasn't. People posted links to the dev interviews that just came out that said the game was going to be subscription only. Long, detailed almost rant poster about had a melt-down. So did a few others who "knew" the game was going to be free to play.
