I don't know why I need to pick a lock when I am carrying a blooming great big firey sword that is capable of tenderising Molag Bal and everything else in my path.

Morrowind had the best. Skills, attributes and tools were the only thing that mattered. I know, it's too RPG for today's games. Now we now have lockpicking systems that a L3 out of the Prison can use to open Master level chests with.

Of course the loot does not seem to change much depending on the lock. But that is another thread topic.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I've been playing this game since early release back in April. Now have two vr14 characters, have completed Cadwell's s/g and a lot of other achievements, but still have not gotten the hang of opening chests. Don't know why, but I've just never been able to do it. Have read the forums and other sites for tips, watched a video, etc. Just doesn't work for me. Shrug. One achievement I'll never get.

    Hi

I can't pick any locks anymore, it's been this way for quite a while.
It used to be easy to do the simple ones, now even they are next to impossible.

I waited figuring it would get fixed, but it hasn't.

It's like something is off with the timing.

The lock picks now break all the time and no matter when I click the tumbler doesn't stay down.

I don't even bother to try anymore, other then to check once in a while to see if its been fixed.

Is this something to do with my computer, or it it like this for other people.

    Mike

Uhhhh... I lockpick just fine... break one pick every 8 chests... at the most often...

Well it did work for my to start with, I opened dozens of them, and then suddenly it just quit working. I don't know why but I noticed it right after an update, do I figured that they broke it, but it doesn't seem to be that way for most people.

I just gave up on it and don't consider it part of the game anymore.

    Hi

I noted that a lot of people suggested to do it by the sound, not where it appears to be visually or by the vibration of the tumbler.

I turned my sound way up and I don't hear any sound until it fails to catch.

Up to that point it's completely silent except for the sound of the breaking lock picks.

I tried again yesterday and had no luck at all, I couldn't get one simple chest to open.

Ignoring the failing to catch, why do I break 2 or 3 lockpicks every time I try.
When I started playing the game is was really rare to either fail or have a lock pick break, now the break constantly?

I guess I'll just have to assume that there is something about my computer that's causing this, but I have a 100Mbps connection and really low latency 22ms, with no packet loss or jitter.

Weird, you don't hear a slight rattle as you get closer to the pin set location? You know where the pin starts to shake a bit?

Anyway, my lockpicking improved dramatically when I started using the two button method and not the double click. Basically that means using the right or left mouse button to move the pin down, then clicking other button to set it at the right place. I don't think it matters which button you use to move the pin, but I use the right button to move the pin, then use the left to set it. It did take a little practice and some broken picks to get the timing down, but lockpicks are a dime a hundred in this game.

If your trying to do the double click, did you make any adjustments to the double click speed to make a dodge roll happen? A number of people have adjusted that as the dodge roll can happen easily otherwise. Perhaps that setting has an effect on the double click used for lock picking. Also, the double click speed in Windows could have an effect on this too.

But the two button method eliminates the double click issues all together.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

    I don't think I've ever failed!
There are only 3 heights the tumblers activate at. Very easy to remember where to stop.
No need to rely on any cues.

I'm pretty sure the difficulty is mostly tied to the number of items you pull, and the zone sets the item level. From my experience I normally get:
    • Easy: 1-2 green items + gold or 1 blue item + gold
    • Medium: 1-3 green items + gold or combo of green and blue items + gold
    • Hard: 3-5 items from white to blue + gold, or a purple + gold
    • Impossible: ???

I find easy chest about 90% of the time in game.

That would be nice but I don't think it is.

I was farming one delve pretty steadily for a while and there are 11 Chest Spawn points there. I was getting a nice mix of Simple, Intermediate and Advanced and even a couple of Masters to open. I would get a blue every once in a while from an Advanced chest and never saw a gold drop from any chest. I don't remember anything remarkable from the two Master chests, other than they were Master chests.

By Steadily I mean I did 9,000,000 in Dungeon Damage in that place alone in a month. And looted enough to vendor items and upgrade my bank from 120 to 160 slots and have 160,000 gold on top of that. So, that is a lot of chests that I opened as one spawned on each rotation through that dungeon. (it's not that big a place). In case you were wondering about why, it was for Warlock Rings. I found 6 of them in there during that farm marathon.

I might have to look at dungeons more closely, never found more than 4 chest spawn locations.
Also rarely see blues and since the recent patch I've not seen any noticible difference between treasure in any level of chest....

This one delve (Mehrunes Spite in Auridon) has the most chest spawn points that I have seen. However I do not normally run a dungeon so often I get super familiar with it. You can get a chest just about every other circuit, probably more often if you wait a couple of minutes in between. I get the boss every two circuits so it probably on the same timer.

Haven't noticed any issues with lock picking here. It seems to work the same as it always has. I've always done it just by holding left click and releasing though, not sure about right clicking.

I thought you had to click again if you were using one button...

Anyway, its nice there are a few ways to set the pins.

Maybe.. I've never done it that way, though. Seems that there are a few different ways to do it. I just click - hold - release. Seems to be the simplest way to go.
