It's nice that they tell us those things via other forums. The official one is a bad place to tell things.

Nice that they are finally rebooting.
EU server, and loosing interest in the game.

If that is a real response from them, why isn't it on this website?

    EDIT: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/comment/1257580#Comment_1257580

So it appears from the time stamp on what the OP put up, compared to the above link, that Zenimax does indeed post on their own forums second. What the heck?

Well, take a look at the Reddit forums, and take a look at the official ones. Notice that the Reddit users are, by and large, much more reasonable and well-mannered. Now let that sink in. These forums are worse than Reddit. Worse. Than Reddit.

I don't think these forums are worse than reddit, but that's besides the point. Zenimax should still tell information on their own website before posting it on another forum. I shouldn't have to go to an outside source to get my up to date info.

The crying about reddit posts is old news. Maybe they saw the question there and didn't see one here and answered it, no deeper than that. It's not exactly a major announcement - they do post those notes when there is not maintenance, big note at top of forums and haven't seen that announcement about thursday, so I assume maint is on until I see that. Someone didn't assume and asked and someone saw and answered. Stop trying to make them bad guys for answering questions when half the people in the forums complain about them not answering enough.

Also, they don't "post on their own forums second" to whoever said that, as if it's a blanket statement. There are many things that get posted here first and someone links to here form there because of it. Get over the reddit thing, it's not going to change and shouldn't.

ZoS employees are given unique badges on reddit to reply officially to posts, so personally, I see that as official as well.

Oh on reddit. You mean not on the ESO Official Forums where players are to find out information on the game with out having to visit a 3rd party website... On reddit you say... Last I checked I couldn't edit my sub on reddit, only on the official website. So why should I have to go anywhere else but the official website to get up to date information on the game I pay a sub to play?

@ZOS_GinaBruno‌ @ZOS_JessicaFolsom‌ This kind of behavior from the dev team wasn't supposed to be happening anymore. What gives?

You know, if they don't want to interact with us, they could make a post on news an announcements and lock it, or just do what they always do, drive by post and respond to none of the following questions.

Regardless whether one forum is more civilized over another is moot. Announcements should always be stated on the official forums before any other venue.

I realise that it is probably a little difficult for you and some others to understand but, the Reddit post was an answer to a question, not an official announcement. There are far more important things to worry about than the precise timing of posts on different forums.

That's the point. It was an answer to a question that was asked many times over here on the Official Forums and ignored. Just like 90% of the hot topics here get ignored, some dev will post on reddit instead. How wonderful your life must be to be so oblivious.

Why is it okay that they would answer a question that was asked both on this forum and reddit, but they didn't respond to the question on the official forum first? The importance of this is in the eye of the beholder, I hope you can respect that some of us do find this issue important enough to ask for change.

I'm sorry you have such a negative opinion of people on this forum, but there are good people on here with valid concerns (not to say some people here aren't mean and nasty sometimes, but don't lump everyone together in your anger).

Very amusing. You reboot a machine usually because it's a windose machine. The reason that works is that all initialization and driver configuration only works well on a windose machine if it boots from scratch.

The server farm is not likely not even running windose as a fully scaled, redundant farm with proper load balancing in play is not a windose thing. It's a *nix thing and those machines will happily configure on the fly.

Rebooting is not going to fix a thing. Now your machine could probably use one. ;)

Whatever the reason you think is proper for them to post anywhere else first besides this official forums becomes obsolete the second the don't communicate here first. There is absolutely no reason to make post in third party sites and not here. The elephant in the room is, and always has been, is that they have been doing this for as long as ESO has been, and unless their bosses put their foot down, this is not going to change. But I will tell you one thing, if they continue to inform the player base through third party sites about whatever relate to the game, then the game is not really going to last, as there is already a lack of official communication here and some of us are not about to start using other sites to find out about information that should be here first, and that's the bottom line.

This is not the first time this happen or have been discuss here either:

    Reddit the Official ESO Forums

ZOS - Post on your OFFICIAL Forums first

And many more all the way back to beta, but you get my point....

Memory leaks are memory leaks, no matter the OS. From my experience in running a Minecraft server of a Linux machine, reboots are needed from time to time. Allows for the applications to flush out dangling pointers and such.

Edit: I should clarify: I think they are restarting the programs on the servers, not the physical servers themselves.

Hi, folks. We wanted to pop in to let you know that, as others have mentioned, we have rolled a lot of fixes into Update 4, which is why we haven't performed maintenance in a couple of weeks. That said, we will be performing maintenance during our usual maintenance window this Thursday/Friday to reboot the server.

We're aiming to push Update 4 to the Live NA and EU megaservers next week. We'll be sure to let you know as soon as we have an exact date.

    It actually was said here.

Putting it bluntly, an application designed to be run continuously for long periods of time should not need to be restarted to flush anything.

I am just not sure where ESO fits into this. On the one hand, one would think it should be designed to run continuously with no down time. On the other hand, they have no reason to run it longer than the 4 to 6 week Update cycle and can easily just do a weekly maintenance if they want.

I have not ruled out the possibility that the last few maintenance cancellations have been due to them testing fixes or features to allow them to run the server for a couple of weeks without maintenance.

To me it is not just about this one thing, Idea's have been given on these forums a few times and ignored it seems, yet when 1 single person mentions it on reddit they say its a good idea and will look into it.
