Anyone think we need to encourage more discuission in zone chat? also helping members

Hello,

Just thought I would spark some interest with you all.

I like talking and I like meeting you new people, the same as I like helping people but I noticed there are not that many talkative people and not that many players helping others. Mainly zone chat is people selling stuff.

I have helped over 100 people complete dungeons, help with information and inform them about stuff and where to find it etc, the same as have a good old talk and meet some interesting people.

Do you think we should get the community talking more?
Do you think we should get more helpful in the game?

It would be good if there was a feature in the game where you could give player feedback for taking the time to help you with something, or a player base feedback and in return when you reach a certain goal you get rewarded you know?

Example, I am veteran 1 and I have helped over the 100 people mark (I literally lost count) complete the dungeons in the low level worlds and I get nothing for it, no loot, no XP, no chest no nothing... I do not do it to gain something but it would be nice to get recognised as helping members of the community.

I enjoy the game so much, I bought this game for myself Imperial Edition and then 3 more copies for my friends Imperial Edition and pay for their monthly fee, I really enjoy the game that much. It just needs more recognition for the really positive things and I think the community needs to be involved more. Do not get me wrong there are some great members out there I have met a few of them. It would just be better to recognise more and see more.

What do you all think?

Regards,

Menphues

I think what goes around comes around. I've helped people I don't know with dungeons, dolmens and WBs and had people help me with the same. If I see someone fighting something that looks like they could do with a hand or if I'm near by and some asks for a hand in zone chat (whether I have the achievement or not) I'll try and go and give them a hand. As a whole I find the community very helpful, just need less zone chat spam for my sanity.

I think in terms of chatting with others and getting help I would recommend you try out a few different guilds. I'm in one guild that regularly has people chatting on vent and type chat in game. Members are also always willing to help each other out with things including some members going back a few zones below their level to help people.

Jump around until you find a guild that suits you. I'm currently in just two guilds (have dropped a few guilds along the way) because that is all I really need.

Basically, Chatting gets in the way of Communicating.

There are so many things I want to say to others in the game, but I don't. Reason, I have to type it to them. I am a decent touch typist, but most of the time by the time I have finished typing, or turned off my caps lock, then retyped everything, or fixed all my typos, or misspellings or had to stop typing to fight a mob, the person I want to say something to is no where to be seen.

It would be nice to have a Voice to Chat tool where we could say things and it would be typed out.

    Yeah....
Zone: [leetplayer] Get back here you *** and stop running behind me.
Zone: [leetplayer] Did I say that out loud
Zone: [leetplayer] How do you turn this *** voice thing off

Humor aside, I have the same problem. If I have to stop and type something, it needs to be something I have to stop and type. Unless I am standing around watching the grass grow (it doesn't), I don't have time.

It cant hurt imo, the more people working together the more people were going to attract and keep in the game... also this mentality will help improve the skills of the player base imo, if we take the time to help out payers "doing it wrong" instead of just calling them "noobs" or "bad players" as its usually just a lack of knowlege.

I have helped people in Chat before, it's just real hard to do so in the middle of a dungeon or battle. The conversations must wait for a quiet place to stand or the dungeon is over.

Well I have complete all of Ebonheart Pact campaign (Except one group boss in Shadowfen - Slaver Camp boss which is bugged and annoying!)

I should move to the next campaign with Cadwell, I am Veteran level 1 and want to progress but I have remained behind in the first world, about to move to Deeshan just to help my partner and friends get to where I am so we can play through the game together and in the mean time... Anyone asks for help no matter what location I am, I will fast travel to them and help them.

It is insightful to know that there are other helpful members out there, and I hope the game gets more. It would improve the quality and life span of the game.

Some people are just more sociable than others. I for one do not like chatting all the time. I usually have a set plan when I sit down to play, and chatting takes away from that. Although I understand that others get their kicks from chatting and being super social, and really no problem with that either. Usually when I am down to my last 30 minutes of game play and have completed my tasks that I have set out to do, I often help folks and lowbies.

I like the idea of some sort of recognition systems, a thumbs up or some kind of ranking system depending on how many thumbs up you have been awarded.. I think that would promote players helping other players a lot more, especially when trying to complete dolmens and world bosses. But I can also see that back firing with a lot of Vets swarming the lowbie areas and taking all the fun and sense of I earned this dolmen rather than hey I got one hit in and I just got credit for this dolmen or boss. It's a double edged sword.

At one point the software Dragon Speaking had a function for that. Apparently it was discontinued. I'd have bought it. That would make helping others or even just working with your own group much easier.

I ignore zone chat as its always full of spam of some kind or another..wizzing past with superscroll.
Should have a guildjoin wtb wts channel.
Perhaps one channel for each craft too.

When I pay attention to zone chat, I see it split into three even groups: people selling stuff or hawking their guild, people asking questions or providing help, and idiots who would rather talk about politics, religion, and mental health than the game they're playing.

The good news is that I do see those people helping others. They just tend to get lost in the morass of the other two categories. And I have to admit, at one time or another I've been guilty of all three.

I've had zone chat turned off since early access (I'm a bit hard of hearing and rely on the NPC subtitles in the chat box, so tend to turn off chat stuff when questing and have never had zone chat on for that reason).
Still help loads of people regularly though, just last week I had several people ask for help or wanting to group (using /say or /w) and unless I am about to log off I will usually help out if people want some assistance with a quest or a boss and I am in the area.

I try to "encourage" positive game-oriented discussion in the zone chats when I am online and doing stuff in the lower level zones during quiet hours. I usually try to ask what ppl feel about a particular feature or suggestion that I've read in these forums and I find that many start chatting in a progressive way after that. :)

I feel there is usually enough going on in chat these days. If you want to talk, go to the starter areas of your original Faction. It seems people go through the game in waves. So that leaves some zones more or less empty, for a time. Like Veteran levels. Although I found that most people on Vet are pretty helpful. And ready to lend a hand.

I am also grateful that Vet levels aren't full of vendor spam. Even though sometimes I sold things via chat as well. But I usually ask once or twice. And Mail or Trade the Items. Guild recruits are unnerving in every game. It so happens that if they are too overbearing, they just get an ignore. Sorry to all the busy recruiters. Its nothing personal.

    Yeah I understand everyone's point.

My only problem with zone chat is the people trying to recuit and posting and posting and posting and posting so I ignore them because it becomes extremely annoying.

I hope the devs read this post and recognise some things to change, and I hope they add some sort of recognition system or rewards or something. I do not think the Veterans would swarm the low areas for it... I am in the low areas helping people and I gain nothing at all from it. Just some good people, and I read the chats mostly while playing. Multi tasking :)

I feel we should be encouraging each other in forum threads like this to keep going back and mentoring the newer players in positive ways! I do NOT support the idea of "rewards" for simply doing the right thing and helping others.. it somehow cheapens the act.

in their infinite wisdom, as well as their greed (see: we want to sell to consoles and minus the bother of significant UI changes), they have made it impossible to chat and play at any given moment. Which is a given in literally -any-, any other MMO out there..

this is the primary culprit behind a pretty much dead chat minus the selling and the grouping announcements.. solo centric audiences are one thing, limiting them further by disallowing chatting while active within the game..not very social minded a step now is it ^^

could name you more factors, but in all honesty, it is pointless..even this, which i did once mention, it only got me some LoLs paired with a couple of the typical answers, such as "works for me"
(because such is M for massively: works for me ergo who cares about the rest)

so while @Menphues you do have a point, i am afraid that the remedy falls in the developing team's hands; Not ours

Since you used the word "literally" I have to stop and ask what you mean. Misuse of that word is rampant enough that it often means the opposite. For example: She said, "literally every person is a male."

It is a given that other MMOs have a problem with it being impossible to chat and play at any given moment. All of the MMOs that I play are ones where I have to stop playing to type something out.

Typing, talking, greeting, meeting is the fun within games and needs to be encouraged more.

I have met some good people from the zone chat due to myself making some people laugh and helping them.

I do hope the owners read this page and add the reward scheme.

@lordrichter, you need to try out more titles prior to making fancy statements.
Or, perhaps try out more titles -while- utilising the joys of modern technology. You can indeed have a chat while combating mobs, or gathering a herb in any other mmo. Simultaneously. Honestly.
I may enjoy ESO, i do still however maintain a frame of reference.

as for literally, in the literal sense..ie 'exactly'

Don't get upset. That is why I was asking for clarification. Any time someone uses "literally" they could be misusing it. I could not tell from the context of your sentence what you meant. Peace.
