The Elder Shields Online

Step 1: Log with your char in ESO.
Step 2: Press L (default key) and enter a Cyrodiil campaign (I suggest Haderus since it is the one most converted to the great shield aedra, but the others will slowly get to its point once people figure out the mighty of the majestic Shield).
Step 3: Enjoy being unable to kill anyone if you're a dps.
Step 4: Reply randomly to any dudes that start to say "this game isn't designed for 1vs1 so it's okay if we are invincible and can deal a lot of damage with instant cast abilities spamming" or just "L2P" in this thread.
Step 5: Profit if you're a shield user / quit eso if you aren't.
Bonus step: Notice that not all DPS are nightblades with fear or shadows (the only sort of counters to blocking).

Step 8: Find a friend to use said synergy

Now go play the game in Cyrodiil and try to tell there's a perfect balance with SHIELDS (that's what my thread is about) and blocking please. Just do it.
And anyway, fear is a cc and you can break it. And get your health back in a sec... while blocking in most of the cases.1 -

This is true. It really comes down to the timing of the fear. If you fear them with full shields and stamina, well yeah, that isnt going to work. I find the greatest success when I get through the initial shield, get them to about 50% life then fear. Chances are, they are low on stamina and won't be able to break out. This leaves me with 4s to finish them off, which is usually plenty of time.
This isn't fullproof but chances are, you will win. Until they change how shields stack or abilities can be cast while blocking, this is the counter to it. You don't need to be a NB for fear which was what my original comment was about. It's not going to help you in a 1v1 situation since you need the synergy, but as others have suggested, there are counters to this that are not fear based.
It's the same thing with the people complaining about Vampires. There is an entire skill line dedicated to countering it, yet we complain that they are OP. The same people then say, well I'm not putting that skill on my bar just for them. Well, if there are that many people using shields or being a Vampire, then I say it is worth it.3 -

This hasn't worked for me. I even got batswarm assuming I would win all fights ever from then on.
Apparently, if you run into a large crowd or red or blue (or purple,) they can, and will, still beat you to death. I tried blocking with my staff to save myself, but it was all for naught.Dear Sister, I do not spread rumors, I create them.1 -
Francescolg✭✭✭✭Guy, as long as CCs in general are little bit broken, purge not working (you remove root beeing immediately re-rooted afterwards), mages/etc. chain-rooting, chain-CC'ing you, etc.. etc., archers hitting you from stealth for 90% of you life, DKs chain-CCing you.. There are more and more players that have understood sth. that you apparently can't understand about shields and what they do.
And if you, TE, are pointing to templars with the topic of your thread, why don't you just..up and play a templar yourself and then explain us how to survive, how to do any sort of considerable dmg, AE-CC, or single Target burst dmg - beside beeing a healer/debuffer and shield user - in a game with unproportional burst dmg and massively and frequently abused BROKEN CCs (chain cc animation bug), constant bat swarm dmg from 10+x vamps all together, etc..., Mages/NBs spamming AE's with CC, re-applying them, How shall we survive that without shields when "break-out of CC" and Purge will not help in the ways we expect it to function?Edited by Francescolg on August 30, 2014 1:47PM1 -

We can self heal, just not as effectively.

Have you tried using funnel health or swallow soul as a stam build? Those ticks of 50'ish crit heal are beast. >_> <_< :''/
