Misinformation

I keep reading posts and web articles that say that some ESO skills are broken and don't work as advertised. So far I have found no way to find which skills are "still" broken on 8/27/14. There have been patches and updates since most of the posts and articles were written.

Knowing this is vital to my learning how to play the game. If I am to play with broken skills, at least I should know which ones are broken now. At this point, I disregard any post/article that is not dated 8/1/14 or later. There are not very many. This could be the downfall of this game and a major reason it fails, if it does. What happened in beta is of no interest to me, I want to know about NOW.

To be quite honest with you, I also don't know what some people are on about broken skills. Probably people that have all sorts of 3rd party software to check or workout various percentages of damage, buffs, etc.

I have been playing since the official launch (April) and still don't know what the big issue is. I take the view that if holding a dagger or sword, then the pointy end goes into the other person. If holding a bow or staff then hit them from far.

I have also heard a lot of gripe regarding stamina v magicka builds, but I cannot say first hand what the issue really is, I have both a sorcerer and a nightblade, and I use mostly magicka based skills.

But at the end of the day, the main reason for playing is to have fun, which I do have - although I do get frustrated when a quest is broken, but I just go do something else until its fixed.

P.S. and no I do not work for Zanimax nor am I associated with them in anyway - unless you count me giving them money every month in subscription fees.

    Yeah, I'm with you.

I do understand some of the stamina issue with NBs. The main gripe, the legitimate one I think, is that NB stamina skills compete with wanting to be able to dodge/block. If you dodge a couple times you don't have much stamina left for skills.

Or dots breaking cloak. Or cloak not working at all. Shadowy disguise not getting rid of debufs. Poison arrow no longer having a dot. There are loads more these are the nb now ones I can think of off the top of my head.

It was a brilliant move by ZOS to gut the API. Most people dont even realize when something doesnt work as the tooltip claims.

Pffffttt. Most of those people making those posts or articles have not played the game enough to learn it. I swear I see some posts on here that had to have been made by people who have never played the game. OP, I am not refering to you. They usually give themselves away by complaining about an issue that was fixed several patches ago.

    1. Are some skills not that useful? Yes.
    2. Do some skills only work best on certain builds or certain situations? Yes.
    3. Do some skills get borked by patch change? Yes, and those get fixed quickly.

However, I have not seen a skill that is broken yet. No, I have not used every skill in the game, see 1 & 2 above. However what I have used works.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Personally I love the fact that Zen is willing to listen to their clients both in and out of the game in this forum setting. Also, every game ever invented has issues when it comes out and continues to have hiccups throughout patches and whatever. The question for me is always, how well do the game's developers respond to these issues? Are they working to fix them or are they ignoring them etc. I think Zen's done a great job owning up to issues and working at resolutions. :)

Ambush and Impale using up magicka and playing the animation when activated but often doing nothing else. Evil Hunter lagging/messing up skills/attacks done in quick succession. Haste not working with bows (and affecting other weapons in very slight way only).

You are referring to patches fixing bugged skills. So that information alone should tell you there are broken skills. And there are indeed bugged skills that haven't been working since game launch. NB cloak is one of them.

Excellent points in your post oldspook. I, also, like Ferncar literally have only experienced a fraction of the myriad of broken problems I read and hear about. However, I have friends irl who I have seen on their computers with my own eyes with some of those very frustrating problems. So yes, they are definitely not exaggerations in every case.

Its so hard if you love a game to not even be able to reliably get 'in'/log in; get kicked often, or become knowledgeable about your class and spend time and effort to work different builds, then come face-to-face with the true realization that your buddy running that dress and stick outfit and build next to you in the same room literally IS more effective than you. Balance continues to be a complicated subject. I hope ZOS keeps adjusting and looks seriously at where the base classes are headed in the future. In addition, skills and abilities being zonked or unreliable in function is crazy-making for some players.

Sadly ... this is one difference in why you may not have issues with or more than the normal challenges with your Nightblade Ferncar: "and I use mostly magicka based skills.
