Please reduce the cost of rspec

respec'ing in this game is like buying a small house in the real world. I am some one who finishes a zones main story and then goes off and finds all the sky shards, between that and the fighters/mage guild and my own story with the prophet I can pull in a lot of skill points.

Right now I think the cost for me to rspec is close to 4k ....

I don't even have that much - please reduce the amount to maybe a 1k per rspec.

They're reducing it to 1g per point with 1.3 release (hopefully next week). This is temporary though, they'll bring it back up but not as high as it is now.

Good to hear from the comments that they are reducing it. Messing around with builds can be a blast. Would be awesome if there was just a button in the panel to reset it anywhere out of combat. Eliminate need of an NPC. Convenience is king.

Respec WILL be free (once) after the patch. This is something most MMOs have. So you get a chance to reoptimize your build and I think it is fair.

For the normal, when not after a patch, I think it is fine. First time I respecced was 12k gold. A lot so you wont do it every other hour, but easily obtainable to run with a few different builds couple of times a week. Also now that morphs can be respecced it will help ppl like OP. I think it should remain a large gold sink.

    From the 1.3.2 patch notes:

The cost to respec has been reduced to 1 gold per skill point or stat point. Note that this is a temporary change to prepare for Update 3 to go live, and is not permanent.

thats only for the PTS server Azzuria, and will be changes as they write when they release update 3.

the reason they make it cost 1g in PTS, is so people can test skills and help out without paying 20k gold.

So normal players wont be able to do that.

Still a free respec and cheaper respec will come just not that cheap :)

no, they said it will be on the live version.

We get 5 million gold when we create a character on PTS, so the cost on there is irrelevant.

The higher cost of respecs was to prevent people from constantly doing it. If you are limited on respecs, than there are some consequences to your choices.

If your cost is only 4k, than you only have 40 skill points. Why do feel the need to respec this early? Leveling a new skill or ability this early in the game takes about 5 minutes. The problems arise when you're in the later stages of the game and have 250 skillpoints and only need to reset 1 morph. This cost is being addressed, as well.

Paul Sage ESO off the record http://youtu.be/u0UUsPRdY5k

    (1:09:50) Respec costs
Interviewer: We believe that there should be free respecs, no offence, pretty much any time you touch a skill line that changes how people can play, meaning passive abilities that affect combat or even active abilities that affect combat. Those should be given for free because its no fault of the player. I actually wanted to suggest any time a change is made to any skill line, that that skill line in it's entirety gets respeced. WOuld there be any way of doing that? Like individual skill lines as well.

Paul: We do have some final (or finer, cant make it out) control over what you can respec. Here's what I'll say directly. There were some changes that went in recently that we think we should have offered a respec for. Let me then say that we're going to lower the cost of respec. The minute update 3 comes out respec costs will be lowered completely, so if your going to respec, that's a really good time to do it. We will probably offer a free respec right there. The respects will actually be very low cost with update 3, and we're going to see where it goes from there. Are we going to raise it back up or not, time will tell, but certainly that is the idea for now.

    or

    From Quakecon
Nick: For the first week of update 3, we will make respec extremely cheap (i.e. 100 gold). After that we will reduce the respec cost by 25%. We will also add in respec for just your morphs that is really cheap (100x cheaper than a full respec).

Uh ... no they shouldn't. This is what mounts are for. Gold sinks. This is what high end crafting mats are for - gold sinks. Don't punish players because they want to experiment.

thx @Ojustaboo looks though we have to be fast to get the really cheap respec, as it seems they will raise the price a tiny bit after first week of release, but nothing close to where it is now, looking forward to this.

My last respec cost me 22k, and 2 days after I found out that I had morphed one of my main skills wrong, been playing with it ever since, waiting for this.

It seem to me that is actually close to what it was if you want to actually respec all points. They say they reduce it by 25% which would make your 22k be 16.5k. If they allow individual morph respec nobody would do a full respec anyway.

I think the cost is okay IF you can pay a much smaller fee to unmorph abilities. It sounds like they are going to implement something like this, so thats good.

I don't think it should be cheap to completely respec all the time, but changing morphs should be.

The problem with respec costs is that they're too expensive to those that need them, and cheap/unneeded for those that don't.

Someone who is new isn't going to have the gold and will likely waste points dumping them into random things here and there as they try different builds, crafting, etc. If they want to respec, it costs too much. By the time they've gotten enough gold, they've also received (and used) even more points, setting the gold amount even higher. Now they could always just sit on any new points to keep the price from rising, but that means they're also intentionally gimping themselves as well.

For someone who has been around for a while though, they're likely going to know right from the start what built that want to make on any new characters, where to track down all the skyshards or quests that give points, leaving them with no need to ever respec. And if they do? They already have the gold available to them making it a trivial issue.

Just to put the rumors to rest, when we release Update 3 the respec costs will be 1 gold per skill point and stat point. This will last for about a week, and then costs will go back to normal. However, note that the new "normal" amount will be slightly cheaper than what you're currently paying for a respec.

    Hope this helps!

I actually think 100g per skill is fine, I do believe there should be a high cost to switching up what your character is.

My problem is that you have to pay to return EVERY skill point.

Most of the time when I respec, I want to change like 1 or 2 skills, but have to pay for a full respec. I'd prefer to just pay for those 1 or 2 skills I want to change, and not the whole entire character.

But you are adding a way to un-morph abilities for a small fee, correct? I assume that will be put in with 1.3 or after the 'week'...

my other MMO does a better job at respec. you're allowed to purchase partial respecs ingame by your level in addition to the full respec. so you can change up 10 or 15 points for adjustments, at much lower cost, if you don't need a full redo.

    think about it, Z!

That's my issue with it too. It's usually just one or two things you need to change and it's rarely worth it for a full respect.

I really wish you could tell us more about the new "normal" and "slightly cheaper" definitions. Sorry but I don't trust you guys with subtleties anymore. Is it just that you haven't decided yet? I honestly wouldn't care if it was the same price as the current amount if we could just respec the skills we need to. It's a real hassle to respec and then have to spend 70 points instead of maybe 10 or so that I actually want to.

I doubt theyll introduce individual skill respecs any time soon. Those systems are not in game atm and theyd have to code them from scratch.
