That doesn't make more sense if both websites state something different.. In UTC and not EDT or BST.

these links say that either the Netherlands is in either UTC+1 and the other in UTC+2.

I don't know anyone in the UK that uses UTC, (not saying people on the UK don't use UTC) It's GMT or BST. So they cannot win either way. Whether they use American,European or British times you will have people cry.

BST is British summer time. So 1pm UK time. Most European countries are 1 hour ahead of us right? so that would be 2pm for you.

Okey, maybee i played a bit dumb in the first comment. But as far as i know UTC is the most official world time zone.

The US uses EDT i gues.
The brittish use GMT and BST depending on season.
And i learned GMT. The Netherlands is always Summer and Winter time in GMT+1. But for the brittish the netherlands is either in GMT+1 or GMT+2 depending on season.

What im trying to go for.. wouldn't it be more logical if we used one general time zone for the whole world on the website? Then we can all figgure out what time zone we live seperatly. Now i have to count with time zones i do not exacly know.
Assuming the website doesn't display BST during the winter times.

You need to start thinking bigger. Much bigger. :)

EDT covers less than a 1/4 of the continental US ...

While I appreciate that people in Europe play this game, the company is based in America. When they aren't making announcements specific to the EU server, it makes sense for them to use local time (which is EDT/EST in Maryland). Most Americans know how time zones work in our country, but UTC isn't mainstream here.

UTC is exactly the same as GMT. I know folks using both in the UK (may be job related though, we speak of UTC timezones when it comes to setting times on Linux boxes ;) )

I confess that I've only heard the term UTC in passing on some websites. I'm more familiar with GMT as a time zone, due to having lived in England when I was younger. My computer probably has it as a time zone option, but as far as I know, international business-type people are the only ones who would really know it and the conversion.

I'm on Mountain time, it's not a problem for me to count back three hours from EST.

I know GMT, and can count back from that, too, if I have to. Giving it a fancy PC name like UTC is just silly, if it means the same thing. ooo, the big bad Brits, gotta erase any elusion to them.

Considering that the father of "railway time" (ie, time zones), Sandford Fleming (pr. "fleeming") was Canadian, the world should probably be happy he didn't designate Ottawa or something equally dumb as his starting point.

Demands to make the starting point be Mecca are but to laugh.

While the UTC is listed in Windows (at least Win 7 it is), the actual -words- for us Yanks clearly state what we are used to (Eastern Time , Central Time, Mountain Time, Pacific Time, etc).

I had never even heard of UTC until this thread. I've always used regular US time zones, or GMT. If UTC and GMT are the same, then I guess I kinda -did- know what UTC was by default. LOL. But, anyway...

I had never heard of 'BST' either. I thought that might have been a misprint, but there's such a thing as "British Summer Time"? Cool. :)

Maybe Zeni could just take the extra three seconds and list UTC, EST, BST, and whatever else they want...

I don't know why they've taken to using BST either. I thought they would use the timezones relevant to where the server is, EDT for the NA server and CEST for the EU server. 1:00PM BST is 2:00PM CEST (and 12 noon GMT/UTC).

As the EU server will be located in Frankfurt as of tomorrow evening, I hope all announcements related to patching on the EU server will be in CET 24 hour notation as is the norm in continental Europe.

I would agree with EU server announcements being in CE(S)T, but I think 24-hour notation is unnecessary.
