Using Retail ESO Keys on Steam

Crucify_Orphea
This one throws a message in a bottle, plonk!

Vast sea of mewling kittens squeaking, but little attention paid, as mother is too busy fixing bugs for her older kittens. This one merely squeaks, adding to the mewling of the litter.

A long time user of Steam once said, "Upon using Steam Calculator, Khajiit became depressed at how sad its life is. It had sunk literally thousands of septims into its account! But Khajiit then realized, is playing ESO not a badge of honor? Why can Khajiit not flaunt one's hours, as one flaunts a fat fish, or shapely tail?"

The answer was clear. Khajiit bought ESO early, only to find ESO for sale on Steam later that week.

If Khajiit could put her retail key into Steam, and log her hours/receive her updates via Steam too, it would save Khajiit a lot of trouble, and help this one's friends find her in Jone(Lord Gaben) and Jode(Zenimax Online Studios)'s light.

...and maybe the increased friend interaction would help Khajiit kick her unorthodox skooma habit. snrrt. snrt!

It's been asked for before, only in english, ZOS have said add the game to steam as a non-steam game, they won't be giving us steam keys.

This one finds that response lacking. Steam does not record hours of non-steam games. Just let us bind our existing key to our steam accounts!

Do you mind? I'm busy doing the fishstick, it's a very delicate state of mind.

hey im what I describe as a "steamling" took a while for the conversion to happen but I love steam, and yes the community is ***...anyway.

you can activate ANY legit game key onto a steam game if its offered on steam. That means there should be a way to activate via steam.

With that said its most easy on game with full steam integration, which ESO does not offer.

Usually when in the steam library (your library) bottom left is a + tab with "add a game" a drop down menu will rise witht he option to activate a game code. Try that. That is how people get games on desura, GOG, ect and then add them to a steam library.

keep in mind steam only offers a questionable download then the game just launches via the launcher. Yes you get cards you can sell for pennies like other games...and yes its way easier to use steam wallet...but its not integrated...so

your only advantage besides 50 cents of cards is the deep discount on steam sales...which isn't offered...and I doubt they will offer more steam exclusives, its in their interest to not sell though steam since valve (gabe) takes like 30% of it..

basically if you already have a key...not much point other than ability to post on the forums there with the other derps who cant read and easy screen shot uploading...and yeah the thing that counts hours of life wasted (and will count as you sleep because you exited the game but left that sneaky launcher running)

Oh and if it makes you all feel better...they screwed any steam player who upgraded to imperial during the dog offer...it was only available to first time full package purchases...despite being advertised otherwise.

The answer was clear. Khajiit bought ESO early, only to find ESO for sale on Steam later that week.
That was a time-limited steam side sale only. Now it is back to full launch price (55/80 €) on both editions.

Steam is not concerned with games you bought outside of Steam. And that is Steams decision, not Zenimax.
Zenimax cannot give you a Steam key too, because then they would have given you two copies of the game when you only payed for one.

You get a Steam key when you make the buying contract with Steam.
You get a Zenimax key when you make the buying contract with Zenimax (or buy the copy of a trader that bought the copy from Zenimax).

    Oh I agree.

But I don't expect them to change their minds anytime soon.
