The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same

I have a level 20 character who has provisioning skills of 50, now the system is changing to be more like Skyrim.

I have Veteran level characters, and now the system is changing to be more like Skyrim with the Champion/constellation concept.

I bought two copies of ESO so I could group with my wife from Bethesda, now the game is available on Steam like Skyrim (only substantially less than what I paid at release).

Instead of expanding content for us regular folks (casual, non competitive, just play the game to have fun) they create V12 zones and dungeons that require you be a super fabulous player, or you are not selected to participate...reminds me of early school years with the fat kid being overlooked for the kickball team.

Instead of streamlining performance and ensuring stability of existing content of a game a little over 17 weeks old, the focus is turned to adding new stuff and adding subscribers; another shout-out to quantity before quality.

An MMO that forces solo play? How is my wanting to do the whole game with my wife affecting anyone else's game experience? It seems the whole "please do away with solo instances" discussion has been dismissed.

I'm relatively certain I am not alone in the aforementioned sentiment. ZOS would do well to make a great product first, and then expand upon that foundation.

Ok all you five-star forum veterans...let fly your arrows.

Arrow one away! You seem upset they haven't added content you want, yet go on to say they need to make the game stable before they add content. So it really just comes off sounding like sour grapes. You would be fine with content for you, but since you didn't get it, no one should and they should fix the game.

It's pretty commonplace for a MMO to focus on adding content at late and end-game instead of early on, since that's where the player's going to eventually end up. Unlike a VR12 who has completed every quest in every zone, both Trials, and gotten every achievement, done every dungeon, and doesn't like PVP, you still have content to go through.

"Instead of streamlining performance and ensuring stability of existing content of a game a little over 17 weeks old, the focus is turned to adding new stuff and adding subscribers; another shout-out to quantity before quality."

Again, this is a thing expected in theme park MMOs. Without a constant stream of new content to go through, players grow bored and ultimately unsub from the game. That's not to say bugs and so on aren't important, it's just that you can't completely stop producing new content to fix bugs. Also, keep in mind that developers currently tasked with developing new content can't just be moved over to the bug squashing team, as they probably won't have a clue as to what the bug squashing team is doing, meaning they're less effective there than they would be developing new content.

I guess you may not like things changing from what you are used to, but the primary complaint of many people that are leaving the game is the veteran system, so they are justified in scrapping it.

I don't think solo or group should be forced in MOST instances. I think a choice would be nice.

I have 5 stars! FF14 makes you do the whole main quest solo but forces you to group at certain points or you can't progress with the story. So they both Force Solo and Force group. ESO seems to try not to completely force it one way or the other but the phasing issues made it more difficult to group. I do however think the main story should be soloed so that you get the story and it makes sense. I also like the group only dungeons because it does get you to play with others but you can bypass them if you want. MMO's should have some group only content to show you how much fun it can be to run with new people. But I also don't see why they can't fix things while introducing new content. Since there are several teams working on things at a time they should not interfere with each other.

The thing dear OP is, everything has an impact.

You play with your wife and I know that playing with someone close is great fun and I am sure you didn't had many issues together at the VR zones. So yes, removing them is indeed a pity for you two.

On the other hand, there are players who see VR as a problem since they don't want to play with others. While their reasons should be their own, it is something that ZO felt should be heard so they nerfed the system and will soon remove it.

What you said about the dungeon and trial content, well its not so much the content that is the problem, its the playerbase. Quite a lot of the people who raid or do dungeons see this as more than just a hobby. They want to be the best, the fastest and the greatest therefore someone who isn't min maxing his or her char doesn't fit.

Its an attitude that I don't like either, but its not any different to you in the fitness studio or in your local sports club.

The problem with all of this is that gaming companies are unable to present a game for everyone.

Back in the days an MMO had a lot content and everyone had something to do. Some were crafters, others tamers, some explored dungeons and again other did pvp or defended the town.

Today many games focus on a specific type of content "endgame". They assume that games should be played in dungeons or raids mostly and to make those accessible for everyone, they add difficulty sliders.

Sadly they do forget that not everyone is interested in that so called "Endgame" nor do they see that even in the easiest dungeon, the min maxing crowd will be vocal on who is allowed and who not.

If I can give you a tip OP, try to play with your wife together from 1-50. Level a few chars together, explore the game. ZO has announced a zone which isn't for big groups, maybe you will find your fun there. Another alternative is finding another couple to play with. Then you are 4 and don't need to bother with anyone anymore ;)

    First off.. Nice title

I think as time goes on there will be some really nice content that will fulfill exactly what you and your wife are looking for. Also I hope these frustrating points you call out above will fade out for you.

correct me if im wrong, but if you are complaining about vr12 crap cus u are not pro and vr12.. doesnt that mean u still have content to get through like cadwells gold? and u cant have everything super easy. there are 16 zones that cater to your style and only 1 zone for "pros" as you say. im sorry but are people who do not want a challenge in need of EVERY zone being for them before they are happy? like 95% of the content is the way u want it will u not be happy until its 100%? think of other people is all im saying its already heavily in your favor sheez

Actually I pad only $45 for it at Green Man Gaming. It was on Sale for $10 supposedly at some Wal-Marts a while back, according to some comments in other threads here. I'm fed of with the straw man arguments of "I over paid"! If you over paid, who's fault is it that you didn't shop around for a better price and offer? This is real life! Put on your big boy britches and buck up Beaver!

And to the OP and everyone like him who has nothing better to do than come to these forums and slag on the game for not letting them play their way I say, "Grow Up"! You bought the game that Zenimax created and agreed to play the game they created when you clicked on their Terms of Service contract. This means you agreed to play the game that they provided to you. Period. It does not mean you get to demand everyone else play your way or that they must cater to your play style alone, ignoring all their many other customers. It just doesn't! Deal with it!

Every one of you whining, demanding, self indulgent children are what make coming to these forums to find out new things about the game a chore for the rest of us who just want to learn new skills and play styles or get the latest news on what's coming. Instead, we have to wade through hundreds or Whaaaa posts to get to one good informative post on what those of us who are enjoying the game are actually looking for! News, Playstyles, Character Build information, quest clues, tips and walk thru mechanics! So thanks for adding to the clutter. Will your mommies be coming to clean up your messes and put you in time out? This one certainly hopes you all get extended nap time!

You are only lvl 20, but you complain about lack of content ? Mate, you haven't seen 20% of this game yet... you don't need additional content because there are TONS of content for you to enjoy.

I do agree with the solo instances problem - but that's something ZeniMax has already begun and are focusing on right now, read the QuakeCon script.

No it doesn't. Class quests, yes, but those are progressing your class skills so that makes sense, but there's no 'forced solo' that I can recall on the Main Story beyond the point where you reach the forced-group content.
