Lack of Staves and Light Armor Drops

Is it just me, or is there a shortage of light armor and staff drops? It is really disappointing to kill mobs and anchors and such and rarely get any gear that you can use on your character. I get a ***-ton of heavy armor and swords/hammers/mauls etc. but damn few staffs and very little light armor. Is it just an error in my perception or do others feel the same way?

I know other games bias the gear drops for your character against what your calls requires - notion of getting more player interaction or some such. I have from time to time thought that this is happening here.... might just be perception bias.

It's all RNG. I get light armor and staffs regularly.

And my 2-h and 1-h / shield toons tend to get "sticks and skirts" drops all the time, from normal mobs, bosses, dungeons, dolmens, and chests too. There must be some conspiracy there or the RNG deity truly hates me...

Everything is equally good food for the deconstruction tool though.

personally i wouldnt bother with drops and just craft things as you level up, it's usually better, hell i wasnt even using any set untill vr and that was only down to experimenting
PLEASE REPLY TO ME WITH @dsalter otherwise i'm likely to miss the reply if its not my own thread

I get heavy armor and hammers and other weapons more than light armor. I have a terrible RNG in this game...

Honestly it doesn't really matter, by the time you reach vr, the stuff you want/need will become very specific so you will prob have to craft them yourself or buy off people. Also by the time of vr2 you would probably want a new set or armor and wep train those skill lines.

This is the single most aggravating part of the game for me - beyond the bag and bank space limitations - the inability to get the appropriate armor and weapons for my medium armor dual wield/bow character.

I have almost completed Stormhaven and have not received ONE medium armor quest reward or even mob drop. No bows, either.

I'm okay with crafting my gear but would like to have traits to research. Can't do that without drops. I shop in my 3 trade guild stores for medium armor for trait research and there's not much that's affordable. All higher level and about 90% is "2% reduction in sprinting costs". A little overdone that one

What??, I'm drowning in Light Armour, I'm picking it up much faster than I can research the traits. I'm also not too bad on the staffs, I have research nearly all the traits across my three characters.

What I'm finding hard to get is Heavy armour with the infused-divines traits, two handed weapons, and shields.

Guess it must be different for everyone.

Heavy armor / dual wield DK here. I have gotten to the point where I have crafted 7 / 8 for all Woodworking crafting lines and can't research Clothier items as fast as I get new traits. I have 10 items waiting to research right now.

As for Blacksmith ... I still have several to go and only about 2 items left to research. There have been times I had to buy items for Blacksmithing just so I had something to research.

But one of the things I do to keep the trait ovens burning ... I go down to the starter island and pop chests. There are a crap load on the AD island and most players just don't even bother with them now. So in an hour I might pop 20 chests or so. Odds are something will drop from one of them that I can research. And if nothing else, I can at least walk away with some soulgems.

It's not just you but when I played on the AD faction I saw a lot more light armor vs my new character whose almost done with the story on DC.

    No idea about EP

Do you craft because gear shouldn't be an issue 1-45

Staff/Staves I'd say yes, there is definitely a lower drop rate than other weapons. As for light armor, I'd disagree... I've just levelled clothing to 50 in 3 days just on light(medium) gear I've collected.
Maybe I was just lucky with the RNG but I certainly didn't have trouble getting gear to deconstruct.

RNG must love me. In the space of two days on two characters I got 3 blue staffs and 2 purples. Also about 2 weeks ago got a purple bow and before that a purple one hand mace.

Lucky at RNG unlucky at love? :P

I do craft, but I want the drops for deconstructing so I can learn new traits. I have almost every trait in blacksmithing and very few in woodworking/staves because I don't get the drops.

One thing I learned from MMOs is that you will rarely every get anything that you want. I get buttloads of staves and medium/ light armor. The game sees me wearing full heavy armor with legendary sword and shield at VR11 and so it decides I need more VR5 robes..... It's game logic don't try to understand it.

The drops are pure RNG. I get a good mix of all types of armor and weapons. A word of advice on getting items for trait research. Patience. I've been on since early launch, and used to spend so much time looking for all the traits. In the early game, I traded traits. A few times, I bought an item. I wound up with a crapload of items in my inventory waiting for a research slot. And in most cases, I found a trait item even as those I bought or traded were hogging inventory as the research clocks slooooowly ticked down. So be patient, unless you have an open research slot and no item to research. Otherwise, research what you have. By the time you get to 6-7 researched traits, you are talking about long research times. Let RNG do it's job while you wait for that next research slot. You never know what is going to drop. And if you have a research slot coming due and no item for it, there are LOTS of crafters who will answer your chat or you can check the guild stores. If you find an item you need, keep it, but unless you have nothing else to research, just be patient for the missing items. That's easier on your gold and inventory as well.

As mentioned it is RNG. Overall though you will find WAY more staffs than another other weapon type as their are many different types of them. Typically after a long hunting run I head back with half of my weapons as sticks.
