Does anyone else notice this?

No real raiding like in WOW. You just get to max level and can craft the best gear so you can PVP in a 3 realm frontier, just like DAOC. You have relics, and keep sieging that is incredibly similar. You can see how Matt Firror wanted to emulate DAOC endgame in this game.

I this game had the rvr that DAOC had, people wouldn't be complaining about there being nothing to do at lvl 50 in this game, because DAOC didnt have much to do at 50 either (pre-ToA).

Problem is, realm pride is lackluster, and campaigns seem like some distant instance. There is never a situation while leveling in a group in this game, in which everyone gets the "relic keep is under attack!" and instantly, EVERYONE in the entire realm gets on their max levels to defend.

Also, the frontiers don't seem to be characteristic to each realm like in DAOC. You don't really feel like you are invading enemy territory because cyrodil looks pretty similar all the way through.

there is no realm rank system in this game...enough said.

But the final and most important point: the combat system doesn't compare. This game is all about instant abilities on classes that all seem to be solo classes. This game doesn't seem to have the crazy class synergy that DAOC had. this game doesnt have classes solely dedicated to utility or CC, which made fights much more tactical and based on positioning and timing and using spell counters, rather than just face smashing into your keyboard and winning as long as you have more people.

In other words, pvp combat is too simple in this game, because of a really dumbed down ability system.

I played mainly in 8v8 groups in that game, and I can honestly say that group combat in this game just feels way too simple.

I don't understands the point of this post. Are you just saying DAoC did it better? Then play DAoC?

I'm saying they are trying to emulate DAOC in endgame content but they forgot what really matters. They focused on just the 3 realm system and keep warfare but didn't realize what really made the RVR so special in that game.

We could only hope for a DAoC model.

    This is FAR from DAoC.

The frontier PvP concept was solid. The PvP skills was solid.
The PvE raiding with a level cap but tons of gear and tons of crafting was solid.

This is a plane crash of three diff game ideas into one fire inferno

Single player meets MMO meets GuildWars (VR pt crap)

Someone please put out the fire

haha damn, I didnt want to be that lambasting ^^

I do think if they added some sort of realm rank system and added more utility/cc abilities, than people would be more willing to stick around the game just for the RVR.

but hell....I'm being way too optimistic. They can't even fix stamina builds.

They need to stop trying to emulate DAoC and make an innovative Elder Scrolls MMO. I'd like to see more sandbox elements like guild cities that can be vulnerable to attack.

DAoC? I've never played it, but it sounds like it's a great game, you should probably go back to it OP

Omg did you play DAoC after 3 months of release... it had so many issues i do not even feel like listing them... By the time ToA came it had been out for a while and was still balancing lol. Give them time to balance.. it takes time... Your comparing a game that had over 24 classes to a game with 4..

This game is about 12 months from completion.
They really should have increased the amount of exp needed and increased the lvl 1-49 difficulty to buy them more time

Having played DAoC from release, I can understand your thoughts here.

Having said that the combat is different and unique but isn't broken beyond repair. I really enjoy both and once they iron out balance and bugs (which they have been fairly good at doing although slow at times) this will become a much more rounded game.

One thing this game will never suffer from is having loads of people make classes that won't be able to fit certain styles of play (e.g. Friar in an 8 man, Nightblade in PvE, etc.). The skill system here is at least flexible so you can mold your character towards a particular style which is good.

Hopefully imperial city does become DF style and they introduce more abilities tied to alliance ranks than just assault and support. With that this game will be better than DAoC (imo).

I wish they would try to make it more like the Elder Scrolls. If I wanted to play DAOC I would play that instead.

Sorry, but if you're talking about RR skills giving out serious benefits to high rank players over lower rank players when you meant realm pride I will disagree.

All VR12 players in this game are pretty balanced and equal. A volunteer can technically beat a warlord if that player were a better mechanical player.

Realm pride is already offered in the various titles we get for our ranks which I feel is how it should be.

    ugh...what?

No. Realm pride actually existed in that game because it didn't have this weird veteran rank system that makes you play in the other realms and help out their npc's....and the frontiers were right outside your frontier keeps, rather than in some instance that you get to choose. The phasing mechanics of this game creates this strange disconnect from the PVE and RVR world. People you group with could have completely different frontier situations, and if your relic is under attack, they literally have not a care in the world, even though they are in the same realm, in the same group, as you.

Also, having the most keeps gave you access to the darkness falls dungeon, which was the best lvling dungeon by far, and thus lower level players rejoiced when their higher level realm buddies took keeps. You had keep siege/relic siege notifications while in game. Plus, races were specific to realms (rather than just pre-ordered to whatever realm you wish), so it did feel like the other realm was more alien.

The realm rank system had literally nothing to do with realm pride.
