ZOS, do not cater to this type of behavior

txfeinbergsub17_ESO
ZOS, if you cater to this type of ridiculous outrage over a vanity pet dog, then every single thing you do in the future is going to result in the same type of bad behavior and this community will continue to devolve.

Please put a stop to it before you create more of a monster than you already have.

Well, if they changed their mind once. I am sure we can get them to change it again.

Umm. You realize zos does this every time someone complains right. Beta monkey which was exclusive to a single weekend stress test in September? All beta testers. People whined about starting zones? Skippable. Doshia and gutsripper too hard? Nerfed. Vr too hard? Nerfed

I know, it is really depressing. You would think they would learn sooner or later. I mean now it has escalated to whining over a vanity pet.

Yep, it is hilariously pathetic .. . Well, just pathetic, actually :(. .

Exploits suck. Don't blame just the game, blame the players abusing them!

Yes. This goes for all companies of the world. Whenever you engage in poor customer service, whatever you do, don't you dare try to correct your behavior by catering to the "complainers" or "whiners" or "babies" or whatever term the OP uses to express his smug superiority.

How exactly was the customer service poor?

Agreed. As far as a vanity pet goes it's disgusting.
  • txfeinbergsub17_ESO
I am more upset that the whining affects the overall game as well. Starter island decision was stupid as an example. Dog doesn't affect it as much until everyone has their stupid dogs out in the marketplace and people can't get through to the seller.

Taking an item that your customer base has been requesting since Day One and making available to anyone but your existing customer base is bad customer service, plain and simple.

Let me make this clear: I don't care about the dog. But I understand that people do. I don't look down on them because they value something I don't. I empathize; I look at their point of view and extrapolate how I would feel if it were one of the issues I do care about.

They could have saved themselves a lot of trouble by making the Steam vanity pet a... I don't know, a Kwama Scrib or something else not many people actually want.

And yes, I agree that the Starter Island thing was stupidly pandering to dumb people. These are very different issues.

So you are okay with them charging you $4.99 for the pet? You see, they didn't say it would be free.

We're not living in a vacuum snit.

When members of our community act badly it reflects upon us all. It makes for a poorer social experience and it damages the integrity of our games.

I don't lack self-awareness by calling out people who are damaging our community. It falls to all of us to police community behaviour as well as our own.

I am starting to feel sorry for ZOS, dinged when they respond to criticism, dinged when they don't.

    I'd be okay with that.

I'd imagine you would not be in the majority of the people that have voiced their outrage today if ZOS charges for it. I am also okay with charging for the dog, but I think you are going to see another full blown tantrum in the forums. We shall see.

I'd be a bit upset if ZOS decides to charge $20 for it, lol. $5 seems reasonable, for a cosmetic, yet highly desirable, item. My personal opposition through this whole thing (and I've been relatively vocal from the start) has simply been against the idea of dogs being limited to Steam users. If dogs are not limited to Steam users, fantastic. Done. End of story.

Edit: I hope you're wrong about a future tantrum about the pet going on the cash shop. I am afraid you're right. But I do hope you're wrong.

    Yes.

I think most posters expressed a willingness to pay for the pet. Several said they'd be willing to buy a Steam version, in hopes they could link them. Some people actually did buy a Steam account (and found.. you can't link them).

Most of the people screaming some baby-talk version of "GIMME FREE NOW NOW" were in your imagination. Not all of them, this being the internet. But most.

So, yes, I'm happy to pay for it. It was never about the money. Similarly, I'm happy to see discounts on the game for new players. More subs mean more revenue mean dev resources over time.

I don't think you and Neraverine ever really understood the perspective of other posters. I'm also often bewildered by what makes others upset. But I've learned to live with that fact :)

Yet another shill who doesn't understand the actual perspective of people who are angry.

Or does, but refuses to acknowledge it, which is far more likely.

    Pathetic.
  • txfeinbergsub17_ESO
Fair enough then. Lets just wait and see what happens. I am afraid you may be underestimating the amount of people that are expecting it for free, but sure, maybe I am then one misreading this.

They aren't catering to anything and they haven't caved. They said that they have plans for a brown dog later which if you knew anything about the current minipets in the game files you'd know that a brown dog has been in the game files for a while now, just not available to players. Along with many other minipets that will either be available through in game events or via promotions.

God forbid lets hope it isn't a promotion. Just look what happened this time with the Steam promotion. And if it is via in-game events, lets hope it isn't just PVP, or just PVE, or just Vet levels, or just Craglorn, etc etc. you get my point, because all that is going to do is open up the next whine-gate.

I think it is more exclusives in a shared world that irks people more than what is exclusive.

There was no reason for ZOS to offer a new pet only to Steam Buyers, they could have offered a new pet to everyone. They could have differentiated it in some way, as they are doing with the dog if they have some need to do so (what that need is escapes me at the moment)

Would I ever use the Dog or another Pet? Probably not in the game due to the nerfs to sneak a pet gives. But what other things are going to be offered to another exclusive group that are denied to those who have been playing and supporting the game?

The Console releases are coming in a few months, what will be offered to the console buyers that the PC Folks don't get? I think that is the underlying root cause for the negativity.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

By the way, they've eliminated this issue in Cyrodiil. Sorc pets stealth, and vanity pets can't be summoned at all.

The two-pet (or three-pet) sorc is no longer the easiest kill on the field ;)

I agree asking for the ability to pay for something that costs them nothing is an indication of the entitled nature of gamers today.

I also think that anyone who feels like there subscription should give them vanity options in game and fun ways to earn vanity pets are entitled.

Anyone with an opinion is entitled and I am mad that you are mad about them being mad therefor I am the highest on the anger poll and that makes me superior. I win.

I hope it is a promotion because the people stamping their feet over it will eventually do something to get themselves slapped off the board and it will be a quieter place.
