What Do You Want To See In Player Housing?

I looked around and didnt see an open thread about this yet, so I thought I'd ask:

What features would you like to see in player housing?

I know we're far off from this coming to the game, but nows the time, while ZOS is thinking of the answer to this question too.

Personally, I'd love these features:
1. Freedom to place, resize, and reposition furniture/decorations
2. Invite friends to the house
3. Have the choice to live anywhere in Tamriel, regardless of faction
4. Allow the pieces I set in my home to buff my character

These are a few things I came up with that I think most would agree on. What about you guys? What do you want in a housing system in our game?

Storage. On a kin to Ultima Online or Skyrim.
New Construction Craft schools so we can build it from the ground up.
An option for cave dwellings also (my pirate would love a Booty cave to hide all her ill gotten gains in.
Being First is not the prize, it just mean's everyone can stab you in the back.

Firstly you're housing should be level/reputation specific. As your character gets higher levelled, completes more achieves/more xp you will gain access to different buildings. Smaller homes/cottages to begin with then getting better as you gain reputation/level. Eventually owning a small fort or garrison building (after all our faction leaders owe us their lives, we saved Tamriel from a Daedric Prince and we have saved the lives of hundreds of our factions people)

    •Customisation of building (Skyrim/Hearthfire/Wildstar/RIFT)
    •Layout customisation inside
•Ability to personalise/dye items (furniture etc)
    •Personal Guard/Maid/Bard
    •Storage (chest, safe, cupboards etc)
    •Crafting Stations
•Material nodes (dependant on crafting stations)
•Personal Quest Hub (similar to WoW Garrison)
    •Target/Practise dummies
    •Stable for owned horses
    •Random visits by wandering traders
•Place/flag to display guild insignia (if you have one)

That seems a lot like Wildstar, which isn't a bad thing since it's the best part of that game. But I would embrace any housing concept that included more storage!

I've never played an mmo with housing, so I'm not really sure what to ask for aside from storage and lots of customization options. The ability to interact with furniture perhaps (aside from chairs). A bookshelf that works like Eidetic Memory and whose appearance of being filled changes as you read more lorebooks. A stable where I can feed my horse. Weapon racks and armor dummies that I can store old, visually pleasing armors/weapons on. A housekeeper (please make Stibbons be an option >:D) who can be paid to keep out skeevers and feed my currently stabled horses. Random bandit and undead attacks like Skyrim had.

And to kill two birds with one stone, a mirror where you can change your appearance. :3

These things would all be fun to have, but I'll probably be happy just to have my own house, regardless of what it comes with.

Lots of storage and mannequins! Crafting stations and .. Oh I want everything Hearthfire had to offer minus the kids :D I really would like to be able to decorate it (may be asking too much !) if I can't I hope it has lots of weapon plaques :) ! And I hope we'll be able to pop in and out like with a wayshrine or portal instead of having to scan through the different areas on the map. Kind of a pain when you start in DC and are questing through AD or EP :\ . So it definitely needs to be easily accessible :) ! Maybe we could have an area like in character creation where we can set up and decorate our houses like we want . Maybe have some kind of upgrade or point earning system where we can get or buy new things , be able to go back into the creation area and add or take out things and move stuff around :p ! Or instead of just earning things , what if we start small and earn the ability to add on you know start out in a shack and end up in a castle !!! :)

Our characters are always on the move never staying in one place too long. We can usually find what we need as we go.

I think I could be happy with this:

*You are able to rent a room at any Inn of your choosing anywhere in the land
*Part of the Rent includes a "Travel To" feature which allows you to transport directly to the room any time you like.
    *Rent is paid weekly
*You can only rent one room at a time
*If you don't pay you rent you lose the "Travel To" feature.

When I need to re-equip, bank, or craft, I can easily jump to a place that is convenient for me based on my character build.

Unique houses and floor plans. No hooks that furniture requires fit placement - freeform furniture placement. Alliance and race themed houses. Place to do some crafting. Plenty of item storage. Pets. A stable that displays all my mounts. Trophies from enemies or fishing.

/camping in your house gives you a rested-type buff for an hour when you log in the next day --- and they should add this for the Inns also in towns using a weaker buff.

I love this idea! you can choose the any inn in Tamriel, in Teso I wouldn't mind having a just a room to rent, it seems fitting in the game. I love it I love it.

Hearthfire expac from Skyrim. That's all really. But with the ability to farm house-building mats in higher quantities and so forth in group content.

Also, please don't make weapon racks and display dummies ridiculously expensive.

I'd like to have it be 'housing', but not locked into having an actual house - maybe I want a cave! I'm especially fond of all the solo/public dungeons I've ran into that have Lamia nests. Lots of water, some waterfalls, etc. Would be really cool to have a smaller, housecave-like version of that.

I want a place for my vanity pets to run free. They find sitting in my bank a bit stifling. And I want a dog.

Storage, crafting stations, a stable and a servant to watch over all my stuff would be awesome too.

Starting out with a small tent and the option to expand based on character skills, achievements and crafting levels would give me something to work towards.

    1. House sizes and furniture based on experience in the game.

A player who played for a year should have a bigger house and more furniture than someone who played for a month. At Ultima this principle was beautifully done and now with the achievement system it could be made even better.

    2. Opening of a shop

Players should be able to open their own shops based on an NPC, that offers their goods. These NPCs could be upgraded over time to offer more items, to maybe even have their own life cycle and could be robbed by thieves.

    3. Crafting based on housing

Crafters should be able to craft the basics like chests, doors, windows, attic, a well for fresh water, flowers and food

    4. Social Skill lines

Housing should evolve around an own skill line, at this skill line players can lower the costs for their crafts, growth time of their farm, improve the "slave" that keeps the house clean ...
It would also work hand in hand with the unlocked furniture and house size that comes from the Achievements and progression of the char.

    5. Companions & family

If both things ever come, they should be able to live with us in these houses, the wife or husband could also become the NPC that cleans the house and sells our wares, while companions go out and hunt stuff like woods or even treasures.

Whatever it they do it should require items made by crafters. Woodworkers to make beams, slats and furniture frames, blacksmiths to make nail, braces and hinges, clothiers to make upholstery, curtains and linen, alchemist to make paints and stains and enchanters to make runes that turn tables into crafting stations and transfor trophies into shrines to the Divines.

Say what you want about Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, the way they went about making homes was awesome.
Brunhilda Icehammer - Nord Dragonknight, 'Smith & Enchantress 'What is 'ranged? I need to hit something!!'
Laehl Direthorn - Bosmer Nightblade, Purveyor of fine Clothes, Bows and Staves
Reeza gra-Zuni - Orc Templar 'War Shaman' and Apothecary
Noemi Snowpaw - Kajiit Dragon Knight - I laugh... or I'd have to kill you.
Kitera Dreamon - Breton of The Dominion: Because those Daggers don't appreciate a great Mage.
Lysara Shadowcroft - Dunmer Bloodmage: This will only hurt a lot.

    I want:
-The ability to chose the racial style of my house (khajiiti, altmer style etc.) in some manner.
    -Control the placing of furniture
-A storage of an extra 100 units at least.
-Somehow have the ability to allow another player to live in my house under a rent. (and of course, they have no access to my goods).
-Ability to teleport to it via way shrine

If I had my way. Every city, even minor ones, would have an a few (by which I mean up to 3 at most) added buildings of the regional style. If not that, then buildings that were tied to a specific quest will be converted to a buyable building after completion of the corresponding quest. These buildings will be of a basic sizes, ranging from small to large. The bigger the size, the bigger the cost. Of course, these buildings will be instanced to each individual player.

I would actually prefer that there not be storage or crafting tables in housing because it will nurf traffic and trade in the main towns. I'd like to see the ability to display trophies and maybe a few weapon/armor racks (and thus limited storage in that regard). However, I don't want to see a chest you can just dump your items in the for the above reason. I'd rather see them reduce the price of bank slots instead.

I would also like to see art and other custom items that can be placed in houses and maybe some interactable items like kegs (I'm thinking LOTRO here).

Also, you will probably see phased neighborhoods so maybe the ability for a guild to "reserve" a neighborhood so guild mates can be neighbors.
I don't always drink Skooma, but when I do I go to the Southwall Corner Club. May you walk on warm sands my friends.

Usefulness. It always baffles me when game developers say "You can have your friends over to hang out."

That lasts for less than a few minutes, or as long as it takes to see the place.

    • 1 crafting bench of your choice + fireplace for cooking. Not sure if it's a good idea to allow all crafting areas in housing or not. It's important to keep cities lively and full of players. Maybe if crafting tables in cities were replaced some day by something else then players could have all crafting stations in house.
    • Typical TES furniture and storage containers including bed to sleep on. Storage would probably have to be at premium as to not dilute the value of bank space
    • Trophy cases. This is high on my priority list.
    • Taxedermy Showroom. Maybe throw in a nice Khajiit or Argonian if you're DC ;)
    • Armory w/ mannequins to display armor & weapons.
    • At least 3 level house.
    • Stuff that changes over time like a plant or something (wouldn't have to be alchemy related).
    • Pets and/or farm animals.
    • A new crafting ability tied in with the release of housing.

It would be great if houses were in close proximity to other players or at least guildmates. To see other players houses and have the ability to knock on their door would be awesome. The owner could always have the option to ignore all knocks if they didn't want to be disturbed. It would give some immersion to housing from a multiplayer standpoint.

    Customisation of building (Skyrim/Hearthfire/Wildstar/RIFT)

.... those are radically different types of customization, each not at all like the other. I have to say Hearthstone was my least favorite. All you did was build a pre-built room and it came with everything? That's not customization to me...

Hmm.... my favorite type of building/housing would have to be EQ2 style.

Instanced so the thing could be as big or as small as you wanted in any style you wanted. Crafting and quested furniture.

Rift was awesome in that you could buy wall or other pieces, scale them and build whatever you wanted and individual items were scalable.

Firestar - Imperial Templar - Ebonheart Pact
    Reasons-For-War - Argonian Dragonknight - Ebonheart Pact
Pearl Winterstone - Orc Sorcerer - Ebonheart Pact
Jerro - Dunmer Nightblade - Daggerfall Covenant

I would love to see a guild housing hall of sorts, where all your guild members can come into the barracks
    1. a greatroom for gathering
    2. a war room where you can veiw a map of cyrodill and see a map of the war and who owns what,
    3. instanced rooms or sections so the guildies could have there own place to decorate and store items.
    4. a crafting room with all the tables
    5. a garden room for alchemy where you buy plants and they spawn resources every so often
    6. a kitchen where a higherling restocks daily and money is taken out of the guild coffers to pay for that
I would also like to be able to put up trophies all around the castle halls, to show of our guild's achievements.

Lotro's housing is pretty cool. I would love similar features:
    • A taxidermist so we could mount and display trophies - rare fish/deer heads etc.
    • The ability to decorate our homes, with paints, floor coverings and wallpaper, enough to make them individual
    • The ability to fit our homes out and landscape them with items we had crafted ourselves. They must be interact-able.
    • Weapon racks and book shelves (natch)

I wouldn't mind instanced communities, with access to barbers and grocers and clothes shops (cosmetic only), a weekly farmers market (a chance to grab your provisions locally) and a tavern with card/board games and a variety of entertainment on different days, possibly player led.

As housing is such a roleplay asset, I do not think their size should be tied to adventuring levels, though it would make sense if guild halls could grow with numbers in guild.

I'd like a garden where I can grow my own herbs and vegetables, this would amuse me for hours.

    Armor stands,
    weapon stands,
    crafting tables,
    A kitchen.
    Plenty of room.
My alts sitting around working or whatever they are doing. A room for each alt, or at least a bed, if they have to share.
My own personal accountant with access to the bank.
A nearby wayshrine, one in my garden would be even better.

I guess housing will be instanced, but it would still be nice too have a selection all around the continent to choose from. This one would be really down beat if he had to live among the stinky Altmer and this one certainly does not want to live in a tree..... unless it is a particularly nice tree.

I think if they aimed for two houses for each map, that would be a good start for choice, any more might be pushing it.

    My bottomless chest from Skyrim...
