Is vampirism worth it?

I had the oddest play session so far in ESO last night, by odd I think I mean lucky.

To cut a long story of half decent loot and achieving objectives, short...
I had just finished the wolfman ghost boss, turned the corner and found three bloodfiends. Being an orc I slaughtered them without thought, turns out they were diseased and had infected me.

My question is, "Is vampirism worth it?" will my DK become truly more powerful if I accept the curse. Basically I am torn because I would have so much rathered this happen to my NB (even at VR2) for which this would have been a no brainer.

I have done a few searches but nothing specifically relating to the pros and cons of vampirism showed up.

Dare I say all constructive commentary welcome!

I have a vampire DK.

You have the weakness to fire problem, you can mitigate that with fire resist enchantments to some extent. You will always have to be more careful with fire than a normal person. The health recovery can be dealt with by staying at stage 1 and by using various buffs for it. Not a big problem till stage 3 anyway.

You gain the ability to drain life, health and stamina, from your opponents which is a very powerful addition to your suite of powers. You can only do that once per victim, so you have to keep track of who you have drained, it won't work twice. That is golden, the vampire power. With the morph to invigorating drain you gain ultimate as well. This brings us to the vampire ultimate Bat Swam which is great. A very good AoE ultimate with the ability, when morphed, to return health.

You will have to become a vampire to really use these skills well. It requires a certain adjustment of attitude. You may not have much health and it may not regenerate fast but you don't care, you are a vampire, you take it from other people.

I want to keep it as constructive as well as sharing some of my own thinking.

If you want to do serious PvE content... fire in many cases will be a huge penalty.... as for one thing and some situations.. would personally not invite vampires for this and that due to the handicap.... besides stacking fire enhancements would prevent you from stacking something more usefull..

Keep in mind to weight the gains by exposing yourself, or being weaker at some points to begin with.

But thas is my 5 cents.

This video was also published in April. It says VR10 DK vamp. This one specific build was OP back when the game released and has been nerfed. This doesnt work like this anymore. Please stop posting videos when they are no longer relevant.

To answer the OP, Fire damage is a pain in both PvE and PvP. Some people can make it work now but you will really need to build for it. I'd suggest going to the World Skills forum under PvE and read some discussions under there.

That is old it's true.

I run 2 vampires and I would not have it any other way.

My DK is new but my vampire witch I have had for a while. She took Master Wizard at level 33, crushed that little much higher test. Poor Haskil, he was doing not bad actually but was dumb enough to call some ads, slurpees if you will. Bat Swarm finished his sorry ass.

She runs around with 3 450 fire resist bling bits and 3 190 armor bits as well. She swaps them out as needed. Mostly she pays little attention to health although her regeneration is as unnatural as I can make it. I have a full team 7 working chars and my Enchanter etc keep her very well fitted out. She is most definitely my most powerful char and that includes a tough sorc 3 levels above her. I built her as a glass canon and she is perfect as a Vampire.

MY level 21 DK has noticed some serious advantages to his new state and I'll be running him through 10 - 12 levels in the next week or so.

You can always get cured. You will also find a lot of people who know better but have not actually tried it.

VR12 DK Breton Vamp here, I don't run any fire resist gear and never leave stage 4, in PvP only thing you need to be careful of is oil (having someone in the group with barrier helps), I run an alternating devouring swarm/corrosive armor ult combo with alot of ult reducing gear which makes it if a zerg is silly enough to crowd you they have a bad time. Also devouring swarm is the only active ability i use but I take all the passives.

PvE can be a challenge at times if you face multiple fire casters at once (dragon scale helps), and being a DK with green dragon blood health recovery is not required, I thoroughly enjoy the extra benefits having vampirism gives.

How do the stages for vampirism work exactly? What buffs/debuffs do you get at each stage?

This is exactly why I only play ESO for pve. ESO pve is get close to enemy and mash buttons....same as wow......same as eq, neverwinter, warhammer....EVERY game.......except for one.

ESO is the BEST PvE game hands down I have played......for pvp, refer to the game above.

ATM as a Nightblade I would say in PvP it can be... in PvE no.

Veil of Blades if better in PvE than Devouring Swarm in almost any situation, especially tanking.

One of the things that attracted me to vampire was the passives... but most of them are bugged... Undeath looked so awesome but it doesn't work at all...

In PvP, the stealth speed increase plus the drain skill and Bats can be great.

If ZoS ever gets off their butts and fixes all the bugs/broken passives, it would probably be worth it in PvE due to Undeath.

Agreed. I was a Vampire from the first week the game came out and removed it a few weeks ago. I do have to say my survivability in PvP jumped quite a bit (I was hard capped on resists). The thing that sucks the most is going from a fast stealth (I'm a NB as well) to a normal speed. I accidently ran into Bloodfiends a few nights ago in Reapers doing some achievements and now I'm tempted to pick it up again solely for the stealth speed.

All the fire damage in PvP certainly makes you pick and choose your battles.

So have any sorc vamps stacked the speed buff from the morph of sparky armor on top of the vamp stealth speed buff. My vampire NB son is insanely fast in sneak and he just has NB, armor and Wood Elf buffs. I have not unlocked the vampire sneak thing yet.

That should be stupid, sparky, fast.

I'm probably quoting a hundred or so above posts, but tl;dr: no, never. It's just there to sink some points into for no reason, kind of like Honor the Dead was until two weeks ago. I have no idea why it hasn't been at least replaced with something that works.

My khajiit nightblade couldn't imagine not being a vampire. She enjoys moving quickly while being stealthed and admiring how brilliantly white her fur is thanks to vampirism.

It is worth it now, but I don't think it will be worth it after Update 3. With the health regen cap going up so high, you are really going to miss that big chunk that vamp tanks away.
