Any news on the in-game mailsystem?

When will the in-game mail system be fixed? It is lame, that we need to logout and then back in, just to recieve the items, we buy at the auction houses...

And while we are at it: when will the guild banks be fixed, so that they don't time out, when entering them...

Questions, questions, questions... So many and so few replies :D

In-game mail should go to the name of the character ... not your account log-in. If someone you give your in-game email to has a password generator, they are halfway to taking over your account.

It is insane to use your account log-in for your in-game email address and all characters seem to use the same address and any one of my characters has access to all emails sent to any one of my toons. That isn't really bad but using the account name for email certainly is.

The Chinese gold -sellers and hackers are running on main-frames and using your account name just gives them half the info they need to come in and play your account.
    If I wanted a Signature I would have a Signature --- but i don't want one so I don't have one.

Except for that whole email authentication thing that is.

Dominoid --- you mean the email you have to reply to? How does that change anything? You only verify for Zenimax that you have a valid email address that functions. It still gives hackers half of the information they need to log in to your account.

    Very very poor security.

Just because you verify your email for Zenimax doesn't prevent hackers from using it. In fact, the hackers KNOW the email is good precisely because it HAS been verified or you wouldn't be able to use it in the game. They can use your account name to log in if they can guess your password and with their mainframes they can run password generators to figure it out. No wonder the game was overwhelmed with gold sellers. Although, I haven't seen one lately --- for the last week.

While using account names as ZOS do is crass from a security point of view, your concept of account hijacking is way oversimplistic, account thieves don't use 'password generators' not least because accounts are locked out after a very limited number of failed attempts.

... and with their mainframes they can run password generators ...

While I was surprised to learn that the concept of mainframes has not completely gone by the wayside, today so-called server farms are much more common than the classic 1960's mainframe. As far as hackers using brute force to crack encryption, it now appears they are more likely to buy processing time from popular cloud computing providers such as Amazon EC2, perhaps even using your stolen credit card number to pay for the service. One thing such hackers would need before being able to crack the encryption, however, would be an actual piece of encrypted data from the source system.

So, aside from the interesting discussion about security, any news on the threads actual questions?

    What mail problem?

Waiting a few minutes in game is apparently a problem for some.

@Megablam, the mail isn't broken. No idea about your issue with the Guild store time out (do you mean the anti-flood search check that is in place?), as I suffer no time outs.

Mega - keep asking. Over and over. And they will keep ignoring you...

Because there is no 'mail problem'. The mail -eventually- gets to you. Or, you can log out and back in to get it faster (this usually works, but not always).

Nothing is broken. Asking why something is broken - when it isn't - is just going to get you ignored.

As for the guild store 'time out' issue... not sure what you're talking about there. I've not seen any problem with it, either.
