Nord Dragonknight tank useful skills

Falcon9142
Hey guys

I'm pretty new to the game and I just started a Nord Dragonknight. I want it to be a tank of some sort. I will be using either sword and shield with a bow or two handed with a bow.

I would just like to know what is better for tanking, sword and shield or two hands? and what skills are very useful and what to morph them into.

Thanks a lot!

it really is a matter of preference for each individual (that's why i love this game) but here is a link to a "standard" build that involves both two handers and one and shield. definitely try playing with that skill calculator if you want to plan out your build but with the number of skill points in this game I have been able to explore multiple possibilities without a reset of my skill points. good luck out there!

If you plan on tanking in dungeons you definitely want the shield. There are great passives for blocking making it easier when learning.
It can be done other ways sure, but its more rp with a shield.
You wont do much damage though, so "the other ways" are highly desireable when your group knows the content.
A skill often overlooked is Inner fire in Undaunted tree. It is magicka based, and gives you an option to Puncture which is stamina based.
Worth to note is that you should only taunt (either Puncture or Inner fire) once for each mob, or youre wasting resources.
Make sure to block heavy attacks, made visible by the yellow sparks around a mob when charging and interrupt channeled spells.
Dont block everything or you will go out of stamina in no time.
When your healer is asking to go dps, you're doing it right.
Attention Zenimax: Stamina builds don't hold up to magicka builds, and this is causing most of your class imbalance. It makes melee weapons and bows weaker than staves and class abilities. It makes medium and heavy armor less desirable than light armor. Fix this imbalance, and you'll address most of your balance issues.

If you build right you can block 4 non-bosses for 1 min plus without a potion. more true of Templars (who have a big STA regen group buff), but DKs who tank build can do it as well (Especially with Hist Bark, see below).

5 piece set Hist bark player crafted armor (can put it on weapon and shield if you want) is your friend (20% chance to dodge when blocking). Be aware dodge trumps block so if you dodge you will not stun guys swinging heavy attacks at you, but they won't hit you, so no STA cost, or damage bleed thru.
